情態(tài)動詞can和could的用法是七年級英語教材中的重點語法項目之一,也是中考英語考查熱點之一。為了幫助同學們更好地運用情態(tài)動詞can和could,現(xiàn)將二者的用法解析如下。

一、can的用法通常有以下三種:

A.表示能力。can表示能力時,意思是“能、會”,“不能、不會”則用cant。例如:

1. I can speak a little English. 我能講一點英語。

2. He can climb a tree. 他會爬樹。

3. I cant swim. 我不會游泳。

其一般疑問句的結構是:Can + 主語 + 動詞原形?肯定回答是:Yes, 主語 + can.否定回答通常是(有時比較靈活):No, 主語 + cant.例如:

1. — Can you sing this song in English?你能用英語唱這首歌嗎?

— Yes, I can. 我能。

2. — Can you climb a tree?你會爬樹嗎?

— No, I cant. / Sorry, I cant. 不會。/ 對不起,我不會。

B.表示請求許可。can除了表示能力之外,還可以表示請求許可,這時相當于may。can與may可以互換使用,但can語氣沒有may嚴肅,口語中常用can。在非正式地請求許可時,其句型結構是:Can I...?(我可以 / 能……嗎?),其回答比較靈活。肯定回答常見的有:Yes, you can. / Yes, please. / Certainly. / Of course. / Sure.等。否定回答常見的有:No, you cant / mustnt. / Sorry, Im afraid not.等。例如:

— Certainly.當然可以。

C.表示可能性。can表示可能性時,主要用否定形式,指在客觀情況下理論上的可能。例如:

1. — Bill, is the pink coat Andys?比爾,這件粉紅色的大衣是安迪的嗎?

— No, it cant be hers. Hers is purple. 不,不可能是她的。她的大衣是紫顏色的。

2. — Li Hua is knocking at the door. 李華在敲門。

— It cant be Li Hua. She has gone to Shanghai.不可能是李華,她到上海去了。

3. He cant be a student. 他不可能是學生。

二、could有以下幾種用法:

A.表示能力。could表示過去做某事的能力,是can的過去式,意思是“能、會”。表示過去不能時要用couldnt。例如:

1. The girl could play the piano at the age of 5. 那個小女孩5歲時就會彈鋼琴。

2. She couldnt dance in the past. 她過去不會跳舞。

B.表示請求許可、提問題或陳述看法。could用于疑問句表示請求許可或委婉提問題時,其回答與can一樣,也比較靈活,但不能用could/couldnt。例如:

1. — Could you give me a hand?你能助我一臂之力嗎?

— Yes, I can./ Certainly.當然可以。

2. — Could you help me carry these books to the classroom?你能幫我把這些書搬到教室里嗎?

— Sorry, I cant. 對不起,我不能。

C.could表示可能性或提建議。could表示可能性時,意思是“能、可能”;表示勸告、提建議時,意思是“應該”。例如:

1. It could rain this evening. 今天晚上可能有雨。

2. The news couldnt true. 這消息不可能是真的。

3. We could write a letter to our principal. 我們不妨給校長寫封信。

4. You could do with a haircut. 你該理發(fā)了。
