      Peer Story

      My Magazine, My Pride

Marc Andrew Deley, 22, who comes from Buffalo, New York, created his own magazine, Rez (life), a publication for college students that focuses on photography and college life.

When in high school, Marc was on the yearbook staff1) and newspaper staff. And in college, he was the newspaper photo editor. At that time, he realized that college papers are focused on news and sports; however, many students are interested in entertainment, fashion, and music. Therefore, he went and found writers and editors around the college campus to create a magazine, Rez (life).

Marc managed to have a legal structure set for a corporation, and found good people to work on it and those people found good people. The magazine was growing and good things were happening; what the students produce in it amazed Marc a lot.

When asked whether he had run into an obstacle, Marc answered \"My age.\" Being younger means he had to work and prepare harder in order to convince people his magazine was a professional publication. He always acted professionally. \"If you want people to take you seriously, you have to be serious about what you're doing.\"

In Rez (life), Marc wanted to convey a message to college students that you can be in college and produce work that is of equal, if not better, quality than what adult professionals are producing. Rez (life) is proof that you don't have to wait until you are out of college to produce a professional product.

\"Never think you can't do it. Be aggressive2) and get involved. The more you do now, the more contacts you'll make in the business and that will help in the long run.\"

      Experts' Notes
