In recent years Beijings many universitieshave become home to several thousandAfrican students. Marcus Muhariwarecently did a random survey of these studentsto find out their understanding andthoughts on African Liberation Day (alsoknown as African Freedom Day), whichfalls on May 25 annually. About 80 percentof respondents indicated ignoranceof the existence of this day and the rest,while expressing some knowledge, wereat a loss to provide any details of why theday is remembered in Africa.
