I have been a research physicist involved mostly in energy problems throughout my working career. From what I have read of your magazine, I like the contents. Recently, the global media focus has been on the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. I have carried out research in this field and published several articles. One, titled “Global Warming – Consequences and Future,”makes an analysis of the problem. From my perspective, to limit the effects of climate change it is necessary to achieve sustainable development and equity, including what is most importan – poverty eradication. Each country makes its own contribution to the accumulation of greenhouse gas (GHG) in the atmosphere. Big nations like the U.S. and China, which produce most GHG, have greater responsibilities to help smaller nations that contribute little to emissions but suffer most from the consequences of climate change, apparent in extreme weather – storms, flooding, drought, hurricanes– that cause water and food insecurity. There is no time for delay in achieving sustainable development. Cooperative international responses are necessary. I wish China Today could publish more reports on this issue, and we all look forward to a joint effort from nations and their peoples towards fighting severe climate change.

I very much appreciate your micro fiction column, because the stories are short, interesting and meaningful. In other words they are full of “positive-energy” – a popular phrase in contemporary China. For instance, “The Lock in the Heart,” “Seven Coins Su,” “A Living Craft,” “Wind Chime,” are all good stories to share with both Chinese and foreign readers. Although about common people and their daily life, all people understand and appreciate the experience and feeling of life that they evoke. So I also venture to present my own story “Mother.” I don’t mind whether or not you publish it, and wish only to show my sincere appreciation and thanks for your work.

I have a strong interest in China and have subscribed to China Today for some time. In fact, I began reading China Reconstructs, as the magazine was originally titled, after it was founded in 1952. Meanwhile, I have also received issues of Beijing Review, and listen almost every night to shortwave French-language broadcasts on Radio Beijing. All these sources of information help me to keep pace with a constantly developing China. The several articles about Tibet in the November 2015 issue of China Today instantly caught my attention. Nowadays, Western media appear jealous about the global rise of China, but your reports denounce the fables about Tibet that are peddled in the West.
