You must hear of some traditional performances like Yangge and Gaoqiao in China. But have you ever heard of or seen another interesting performance called Waist1 Drum?
Ansai Waist Drum dance is a kind of Chinese folk dance in Shaanxi Province, northern China. In Ansai, a small village in northern Shaanxi, nearly everyone is able to play Ansai Waist Drum. Kids start to learn it as early as seven or eight years old. The drum dance is a form of Chinese folk dance originating2 from ancient rituals3 of ancestor4 worship5 and has gradually6 developed into celebration performance.
When the festivals come, there will be a Waist Drum in the village of Ansai. It will attract a lot of people to enjoy it. The sound of the drums and the dance and the jumping of the members both add some atmosphere7 to the festivals.
There are usually large group of dancers, sometimes over 100 strong members in the group. They jump and dance with the beats of drums. This dance is so loud that it stays in the high hills and deep valleys8 for a long time. It shows a strong and vigorous9 display of brave and free body movements10.
It was in 1986 that the Ansai Drum Waist dance won the Chinese Folk Dance Award. So far, this dance has over 2,000 years of history.

安塞腰鼓舞蹈是中國(guó)北方陜西省的一種民間舞蹈。在陜西北部一個(gè)叫安塞的小村莊里,幾乎所有的人都會(huì)打安塞腰鼓。孩子們?cè)缭谄摺藲q時(shí)就開始學(xué)習(xí)打腰鼓。這種腰鼓舞是一種起源于古老的祭祖宗教儀式的中國(guó)民間舞蹈,現(xiàn)如今已逐漸發(fā)展成慶祝性演出。
當(dāng)節(jié)日來(lái)臨時(shí),安塞村就會(huì)舉行腰鼓舞蹈活動(dòng),吸引很多人前來(lái)圍觀欣賞。伴著美妙舞曲的腰鼓擊打之聲和眾人的有節(jié)奏的跳躍之聲給節(jié)日增添了濃濃的氣氛。
通常跳舞的人會(huì)有很多,有時(shí)會(huì)有100多個(gè)身強(qiáng)力壯的人伴著腰鼓的擊打節(jié)拍盡情地跳舞。舞蹈聲如此嘹亮,以至于在高山和深谷中都回蕩了很久。它彰顯出了一種強(qiáng)壯有力、大膽而又不受制約的身體動(dòng)作的表演。
安塞鼓腰舞蹈曾于1986年獲得中國(guó)民族舞蹈獎(jiǎng)。迄今為止,安塞腰鼓舞已有2000多年的歷史。
