Block-printed Chinese New Year Pictures
T he block-printed Chinese new-year pictures(also known as woodcut Chinese New Year picture)are a traditional form of folk art in China.They are pictures printed from wood blocks into which both the text and the illustration have been carved by hand,to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year,also known as the Spring Festival.They were the most expressive form of artistic representation of things in pictures from the invention of block printing in China to the advent of modern printing,and are still popular among the people.
Doors with block-printings on
One picture is made through four times of printing.Four ready-carved blocks are separately colored into red,yellow,green and black,then a paper is printed on them one after another.Historical heroes and immortals are popular themes in the pictures.They are hung on the doors for cerebration and expelling evils.
