ANOTHER YEAR OF SAFE FLIGHT OPERATIONS

During 2016, the launch year of the “Sunshine China Southern” project, China Southern Airlines achieved another year of safe flight operations, and a number of No.1s in the Chinese aviation industry.

At 23:09 Beijing time, Dec 31st, 2016, Flight CZ3484 from Chengdu to Guangzhou landed smoothly at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, marking another year of safe flight operations for China Southern Airlines.

China Southern Airlines busied itself with internationalization throughout 2016. Benefiting from expanding its route network with the help of its large fleet of aircraft, China Southern further developed its service network. For the past year, including Xiamen Air, China Southern's international routes handled 13,796,000 passengers, with a year-on-year growth of 17.6%.

In December, China Southern further improved its international transport capacity in Guangzhou, by opening two new services: one from Guangzhou to Toronto, another from Guangzhou to Adelaide. So far, China Southern's transportation hub in Guangzhou is the biggest aviation portal in China, Australasia, Southeast Asia as well as South Asia. China Southern has formed a network layout that puts Europe and Australasia as centre, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Eastern Asia as the base, while also covering North America, the Middle East and Africa. This year, China Southern will open a new route from Guangzhou to Mexico, while making further efforts in covering Asia, Latin America, Australasia, Europe as well as North America.

In 2016, China Southern adjusted its project of internationalization according to China's “ One Belt and One Road” strategy by strengthening its fleet in cities on the Silk Road, and has become the biggest air carrier along the route. To this day, China Southern has operated 157 flights in 36 countries and 64 cities along the route, and has put in 940 round-trip flights weekly (a 8.9% year-on-year increase of flights, not including Xiamen Air).
