別誤會(huì)這些英語

英語和漢語一樣，很多詞語是不可以按字面意思去理解的，否則就容易產(chǎn)生誤會(huì)，比如下面這些，可千萬不要誤會(huì)它們哦。

1busybody

從字面意思看，是“忙碌的人”，但事實(shí)上，它可不是“大忙人”的意思，而是指“多管閑事的人”。

例如：Sara is a busybody，always poking hernose into other people's affairs.莎拉是個(gè)好管閑事的人，老是打聽別人的事。

2green hand

從字面意思看，是“綠色的手”，但實(shí)際上卻是“新手，沒有經(jīng)驗(yàn)的人”的意思。

例如：You shouldn't have a green hand do that job alone.He could screw it up.你不能讓一個(gè)新手單獨(dú)做那件事，他可能會(huì)搞砸的。

3white man

從字面意思看，是“白人”的意思，但實(shí)際上卻是指“忠實(shí)可靠的人，善良的人”。

例如：Joey，thanks for helping me find back my cat.You're a white man.喬伊，謝謝你幫我找回我的貓，你真是個(gè)好人。

4dead preSident

從字面意思看，是“已經(jīng)去世的總統(tǒng)”，但實(shí)際的意思是“錢，美元”，因?yàn)槊绹拟n票上印有前任總統(tǒng)頭像。

例如：The hat just costs ya 10 dead presidents.這頂帽子只要10塊錢。

5horse sense

從字面意思看，是“馬的感覺”，但其實(shí)不是，而是指“常識(shí)，普通常用的知識(shí)”。

例如：Some people are well educated andhave read many books.but still do not havemuch horse sense.有些人受過良好的教育，也讀過許多書，但普通常識(shí)仍然不足。

6service Station

從字面意思看，是“服務(wù)站”，其實(shí)是專指“加油站，高速公路服務(wù)站”。

例如：There's little gas in the tank，so we drove to a service station nearby at first.油箱里油不多了，所以我們先去了附近的一個(gè)加油站。

7Sweet water

從字面意思看，是“甜水”的意思，但實(shí)際上卻是指“淡水”。

例如：Travelling on the sea and surrounded by water，the sailors had to save every drop ofsweet water.在海上旅行，被海水包圍，水手們卻必須珍惜每一滴淡水。

8capital idea

從字面意思看，是“資本主義思想”，但事實(shí)上，這個(gè)詞組的意思是“好主意”。

例如：Mitchell came up with a capital idea.He asked Hailey to dress up as the Tooth Fairy and let Lily give back the hundred-dollar bill.米奇爾想到一個(gè)好主意。他讓海莉裝扮成牙仙，讓莉莉交還那一百元錢。

9blue blood

從字面意思看，是“藍(lán)血”的意思，實(shí)際上指“有錢人或出身富的人”。

例如：Some people do not want to admit thatthey have blue blood.有些人不愿承認(rèn)自己是富家出身。

Many blue blooded children attend thisprivate school.許多有錢人家的孩子就讀這所私立學(xué)校。

10bed of roses

字面意思是“玫瑰花床”，實(shí)際上指稱心如意的境遇；美好理想的“安樂窩”。

例如：Life is not always a bed of roses.生活未必都是稱心如意的。endprint
