Papermaking is one of the four greatest ancient Chinese inventions. It changed the world greatly. Thousands of years ago， people in China wrote on stones or animals bones. In the Western Han dynasty， the Chinese started using paper. Then， in the Eastern Han dynasty， Cai Lun started to use plant fibres to make paper. It soon became popular around the country. More and more people like to write on Cais paper. In the seventh century， people in other countries learnt papermaking from the Chinese.

And about 500 years later， Europeans learnt how to make paper from travelers from China.
