The Role of Grassland Route and Desert Route of the Silk Road
One of the world's most ancient and historically important trade routes, the Silk Road conjures up exotic images of camel caravans, windswept deserts. Extending as far as the Indian kingdoms in the west, to present-day Xian in China in the east, the Silk Road was already a crossroad of Asia by the third century B.C. Recent archaeological discoveries across China indicate that silk production technology has developed to a fairly high level from the Shang Dynasty and warring states periods. Nowadays, China's silk goods are still one of the most important products that China has devoted to the people of the world.
The Silk trade road serves as a highway connecting China, Southern, Western and central Asia, in the Han Dynasty . According to new archaeological data, further spread to the west Mediterranean and Asia minor, determines the basic connotation of the silk road, i.e. it is the ancient China through nearly the whole ancient world, the land trade communication channel paving a lot of Chinesegoods, is so called" silk road ".
Differences of Attribution between Males and Females
Much research has established that causal attributions differ cross culturally. A classic finding is that Americans are prone to make fundamental attribution errors, whereas Chinese, Indians and Koreans are more likely to attend to situations (Morris peng, shweder)
The proposed mechanism: implicit theories that is present in American vs. Chinese society. Because Americans are more independent, so they are more likely to see individuals as agents. While Chinese are more interdependent (markus&kitayama), so they are more likely to see holistic influences on peoples behavior.
Given this, one related question is that how gender affects our understanding of the causes of male and females action. There is significantly less research on this subject. Indeed, the answer may exist, but it has not been analyzed. For instance, Morris and Pengs classic paper doesnt report the number of males and females surveyed in US and China or their likelihood to follow particular attribution patterns.
Globalization-Beneficial or Harmful
Globalization has been the common trend all around the world in the contemporary society, affecting many peoples lives differently. It is undeniable that globalization has some benefits, but it indeed carries out more negatives than its positive outcomes, which is the reason for me to regard globalization as a bad thing happening to the world at present.
Family Background Influence—Effects on Individuals' Educated Aspirations
Two writings gave me a deeper understanding of the influence of family on education: Ann Hulberts “ Re-education Chinese higher Ed reform” and Brook Larmers “Inside a Chinese Test-Prep Factory”. Both articles discuss the Chinese education system and how parents decisions make differences for their kids. In Hulberts article, although Meijie didnt get a high mark in Harvard, they were still proud of her, its made clear when the author writes, "Her parents had stood by, a little stunned, as their intrepid daughter won distinction in an unusual way, by accomplishing all kinds of things outside of the classroom.” It reveals that Meijies parents are open-minded and always support their daughter. They didnt put grades as the most important factor to measure their child. This kind of good family education helped Meijie to get higher achievements.
Different kinds of resources on Chinese high school students anxiety
‘Life always makes us black and blue, but those painful things will make us stronger until we came through. Hemingway once wrote. Nonetheless, is this true? Perhaps we do recover from pain but sometimes it could kill us. As for a typical high school student in an elite school in China, I feel anxiety everywhere. The pressure from classmates, teachers, parents and even from friends could easily turn something small into a serious issue. This kind of issue will finally lead to negative emotions that strongly affect students academic behaviors and attitudes toward lives. In fact, this situation is being more and more prevalent among todays Chinese high school students.
Examining the Role Globalization Had on Chinas Air Quality and Chinas Response to Air Pollution
(Katherine)
Air pollution has become a serious environmental problem around the world, especially in China. In the past, air pollutants usually came from natural disasters, such as volcano eruption. Now, however, most of the air pollutants are generated by human activities, especially from the industrial process. Therefore, it is safe to say that air pollution is a by-product of industrialization. Since industrialization is inter-linked with globalization, many blamed globalization as the primary reason for air pollution.
Since I am interested in how globalization could affect a developing country??s air quality, I immediately thought of China as a great example to be investigated. China has the world second largest gross domestic product (GDP); in the meantime, it is still a developing country. I expect that the efforts China has put into development would make China a representative country capable of demonstrating the effect globalization has on a country??s air quality.
