《尋繡記》,字面意思是尋找刺繡,這本書與全國各地20家出版社的24本圖書一道,榮膺本年度“最美的書”稱號。這25本書將代表中國參加明年在德國萊比錫舉辦的一年一度的“世界最美的書”評選。2003年,上海新聞出版局開始評選中國“最美的書”。十多年來,先后有321種來自中國的“最美的書”亮相德國萊比錫,有19種榮獲“世界最美的書”獎項。《尋繡記》由四川成都時代出版社出版,講述的是中國中部湖北武漢女作家張書林花了近20年時間在云南、貴州、四川等省份收集的近20萬件明清時期(1368至1911年)和20世紀(jì)初的刺繡作品。這本書的獨特之處在于里面有真實的刺繡作品。
Xun Xiu Ji, a book which literally means “Looking for Embroidery”, has been named China’s “Most Beautiful Book” together with 24 other books from 20 publishing houses from across the country.The 25 books will represent China to compete in the annual “Most Beautiful Book in the World” competition to be held in Leipzig, Germany, next year.Annual selection of China’s“Most Beautiful Book” started in 2003 by the Shanghai News and Press Bureau. Since then, 321 books named China’s “Most Beautiful Book” have competed in Leipzig and 19 have won the “Most Beautiful Book in the World.”Published by the Chengdu Times Press in Sichuan province, Xun Xiu Ji tells the story of Zhang Shulin, a woman writer from Central China’s Hubei province, spending nearly 20 years traveling in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Hebei provinces to collect nearly 200,000 pieces of embroidery in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) and the early 20th century.The book is unique partly as it has real embroidery works inside.

Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin won 2018 Arthur C. Clarke Award for Imagination in Service to Society from the Clarke Foundation at the Sidney Harman Hall Recently. Introduced as “acclaimed author of The Three Body Problem and other science fiction works, winner of the Hugo and five Chinese Galaxy Awards”, Liu received the award. Arthur C. Clarke Award for Imagination in Service to Society was started in 2012 and is presented annually. The Clarke Awards recognize and celebrate the world’s most illustrious and creative thinkers, scientists, writers, technologists, business leaders and innovators, a statement on its official website said.

China’s state-run news agency Xinhua debuted its first artificial intelligence news anchors at the ongoing fifth World Internet Conference that kicked off in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province. The groundbreaking AI news anchors, one speaking Chinese and the other English, are the world’s first news anchors based on the latest AI technology.Jointly developed by Xinhua and Chinese search engine Sogou, the AI anchors can work 24 hours a day reporting breaking news to audiences around the world. According to Xinhua, the AI anchors have already joined the daily news reporting team and worked 24 hours a day reporting news on the agency’s social media platforms, including the news app, official We Chat and Weibo accounts as well as the TV webpage,bringing audiences “a brand new news experience.” Xinhua said that the AI anchors have immeasurable prospects for the future news reporting as they could reduce production costs and improve efficiency and accuracy.
