“Mr. Smith, if you like a different type of nose, we have a large selection1.”

“I think this nose is too small.”

“Small noses are very fashionable2 this year, Mr. Smith.”

He looked at his new small nose in the mirror3 and he was very happy with it. The only problem now, he thought, was that he needed some new hair to go with his new nose.
看著鏡子里面新的小鼻子,他非常滿(mǎn)意他的這個(gè)鼻子?,F(xiàn)在的問(wèn)題是,他覺(jué)得他需要一款新頭發(fā)來(lái)搭配他的新鼻子。
“Id like some new hair, please.”
“我想要看一下新頭發(fā)。”
“Certainly, Mr. Smith. What kind of hair would you like? I think short, blond hair goes well with a small nose.”
“好的,史密斯先生,您想要什么樣的頭發(fā)呢?我覺(jué)得短金發(fā)搭配小鼻子很好看。”
Mr. Smith looked at his hair. It was old and grey. When he was young, he had short and blond hair. He wanted to look young.
史密斯先生看著他的頭發(fā),又老氣又灰暗。他年輕的時(shí)候也是一頭短金發(fā)。他想要看起來(lái)年輕點(diǎn)。
“Yes, Ill have short blond hair, please.”
“好,請(qǐng)幫我換上短金發(fā)。”
“Would you like anything else? We have a special offer4 on ears this week.”
“您還需要什么其他的東西嗎?我們這周特別推出了一種耳朵?!?/p>
Mr. Smith went out of the shop with new short, blond hair and two new ears.
史密斯先生帶著他的一頭短金發(fā)和兩只新耳朵離開(kāi)了商店。
In the next few weeks, he bought new eyes (green, unusual5 but fashionable), new hands, new arms, new knees6, and new feet.
在接下來(lái)的幾周里,他又陸續(xù)買(mǎi)了新眼睛(綠色的,與眾不同但很時(shí)髦),新胳膊,新手臂,新膝蓋,還有新腳。
“Am I the same man I was a few weeks ago?” thought Mr. Smith. “I have the same brain7, so I think Im the same man.” He thought he was the same man but he wasnt sure.
“我還是一周前的那個(gè)人嗎?”史密斯先生想,“我的大腦沒(méi)變,所以我還是同一個(gè)人。”他覺(jué)得他還是同一個(gè)人,但又不是很確定。
One morning, he woke up and his new nose didnt work.
一天早上醒來(lái),他的新鼻子失靈了。
“Whats the matter?” asked Mrs. Smith.
“發(fā)生什么事了?”史密斯太太問(wèn)。
“My new nose doesnt work, its blocked8.”
“我的新鼻子失靈了,它堵住了?!?/p>
“Maybe youve got a cold,” said Mrs. Smith.
“你可能感冒了?!笔访芩固f(shuō)。
“Its impossible9!”
“那不可能!”
But it was true. He went back to the shop.
但是這是事實(shí),于是他又回到那個(gè)商店。
“Good morning, Mr. Smith,” said the assistant10. “What would you like today?”
“早上好,史密斯先生,”店員問(wèn)道。“今天您想要些什么呢?”
“I want a new nose,” said Mr. Smith.
“我想要一個(gè)新鼻子?!笔访芩瓜壬f(shuō)。
“But youve only had this one for a month!”
“但是您的這個(gè)鼻子才換了一個(gè)月!”
“Because this one doesnt work!”
“因?yàn)檫@個(gè)失靈了!”
“Can he have his old body back then, please?”
“他能換回原來(lái)的身體嗎?”
“Certainly, Mrs. Smith. Thatll be 100,000 euros, please.”
“可以,史密斯太太,您需要支付十萬(wàn)歐元?!?/p>
“100,000 euros!” shouted Mrs. Smith. “Thats very expensive, isnt it?”
“十萬(wàn)歐元!”史密斯太太喊道,“那也太貴了吧,不是嗎?”
“Mr. Smith has been reconditioned!”
“史密斯先生已經(jīng)被修復(fù)了!”
“What does reconditioned mean?” asked Mr. Smith.
“被修復(fù)是什么意思?”史密斯先生問(wèn)。
“Well,” said Mrs. Smith, “I think it means19 that you have a new brain!”
“好吧,”史密斯太太說(shuō),“我認(rèn)為意思就是換了一個(gè)新大腦!”
“I think that will be very useful,” said Mr. Smith.
“我覺(jué)得那會(huì)更有用?!笔访芩瓜壬f(shuō)。
“I think so too, dear,” said Mrs. Smith.
“我也這么認(rèn)為,親愛(ài)的?!笔访芩固f(shuō)。
