京劇里的粉墨人生

Peking Opera is a kind of Chinese opera. Actors perform（表演） plays on the stage（舞臺(tái)）. There are over 5，000 Peking Opera plays. Most of them are historical（歷史的） stories. It is famous for its costume（戲服） and facial makeup（臉譜）

The shoe sole for a Jing character（凈角） can be 20cm thick. A higher sole means higher status（地位）.

These four flags on the back are for soldiers（戰(zhàn)士）.

It means they are ready for war（戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)）.

Sheng and Dan生和旦 Sheng is a male role（男子角色）. Dan is a female（女子的） role. They wear less makeup.

Jing凈 They always wear colorful makeup. They are heroes.

Mo末 Most of them are old man.

Chou丑 Chou characters are funny. They wear makeup on their nose and eyes.

White makeup is for sly（狡猾的）characters. Cao Cao also has small eyes.
