      Study on Case Library Construction of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal

      Abstract By making use of the technical advantages of Guangzhou Huibiao Testing Technology Center in the field of testing, the project analyzes the characteristics of undergraduate professional education in aquatic animal medicine, and intends to build a case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal suitable for modern undergraduate teaching needs, with training applied talents to meet the requirements of the times as the goal, and strengthening the reform of college education mode and improving the quantity and quality of talent training as the guiding ideology.

      1 Introduction

      With the deepening of China’s reform and opening up and the integration of global economy, fishery medicine is playing an increasingly important role in social and economic development. It has developed from serving only aquatic industry in the past to providing technical support and services for animal health and public health, and is closely related to national economic development and public health. Its connotation has also evolved from the single treatment of animal diseases in the past to the fields of animal disease prevention and control, zoonotic disease prevention and control, food safety, public health, biosafety and environmental protection[1]. To adapt to this trend, Guangdong Ocean University began to enroll undergraduates in aquatic animal medicine in 2015. The core of this major is the cultivation of practical ability, and the level of students’ practical ability is also an important index to evaluate the cultivation quality of undergraduates majoring in aquatic animal medicine. It has become an important topic in course teaching of aquatic animal medicine by combining theoretical knowledge with practice closely and improving students’ practical ability.

      As an exploratory teaching model based on practical experience, case teaching method is suitable for practical courses[2]. The method emphasizes solving practical problems in simulated situations, so that learners can acquire more extensive knowledge and regularity from typical cases. This teaching mode and talents cultivation method has greatly changed the traditional teaching centering on the books and from concept to concept, makes students become real subjects in teaching activities, and promotes independent, cooperative, research and exploratory learning, becoming an important way to cultivate high-level applied talents worldwide. Case teaching has been widely used in the disciplines of management, engineering, law and medicine, but it is still in the initial stage of undergraduate education of aquatic animal medicine, and the case library construction for aquatic animal medicine undergraduate is an important basis for its healthy development.

      2 Status quo and existing problems of case library construction of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal

      Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal is a basic course for undergraduates majoring in aquatic animal medicine, which mainly studies the pathogenic characteristics, clinical symptoms and pathological changes of important epidemic diseases of aquatic animals, and masters the diagnosis and quarantine operation techniques. To get bachelor’s degree, students must master the identification and biological characteristics of major aquatic quarantine pathogens. As an applied instruction course of aquatic animal medicine, Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal needs to be guided by a large number of examples and cases. However, there are many problems to be solved in construction of case library.

      The enrollment time of undergraduate students with bachelor degree in aquatic animal medicine is short, and the training mechanism is not perfect. Influenced by traditional teaching ideas, the training units attach more importance to theory than practice. The training method of case teaching has not aroused high attention of educators in colleges and universities, and the construction of case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal is seriously lagging behind.

      The teaching cases of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal are mainly extracted from typical examples in production practice, or typical cases in clinical practice, or examples collected and adapted from newspapers and magazines. Due to the lack of experience in case teaching and improper handling, such as too complex background and problems, too wide range of knowledge involved, and the inability to detect some high-risk pathogens, it is difficult for teachers to achieve the expected teaching effect, and students are unable to effectively control cases due to the lack of knowledge reserve and clinical experience. Therefore, how to build a rich and practical case library has become an urgent issue to be solved in the case teaching of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal, which is an indispensable part to promote the case library construction of aquatic animal medicine.

      3 Significance and function of case library construction of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal

      3.1 Accelerating the pace of education and teaching reform

      The construction of case library highlights the guiding role of course teaching resource library in teaching, training and guiding production, and it is a professional teaching material library integrating teaching, training, improvement and production guidance[3]. Aquatic animal medicine is a very practical discipline. Therefore, it plays an important role in promoting teachers to update their educational ideas, innovating educational thoughts, enriching teaching content and accelerating the pace of teaching reform by fully exploiting teaching resources and developing characteristic teaching resources library suitable for aquatic animal inspection according to the characteristics of the major and the standard requirements of course resource library construction.

      3.2 Realizing extensive sharing of teaching resourcesPromoting the construction, sharing and application of high quality resources is an important content of educational informationization. The case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal can not only be used in the teaching practice of majors such as aquaculture science and marine biology in Guangdong Ocean University, but also provide scientific reference for the construction of other course resource library. Meantime, the contents of the case library will be shared through the network, and it will also provide services for the national aquatic animal medicine students and employees in related industries to improve and update their skills, graduates to receive continuing education on the job, and individual diversified learning.

      3.3 Improving the teaching level of teachersIn the process of building the case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal, the teachers in the course group need to learn the development concept of the course resource library, understand it thoroughly and clarify their thoughts. At the same time, teachers need to read a lot of materials and go into many enterprises to collect relevant resources, and also learn great deal of knowledge invisibly, thus improving their professional level and enriching the scope of knowledge. The combination of theory and practice improves the teaching level of teachers and promotes the construction of professional teaching staff.

      4 Construction strategy of case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal

      4.1 Construction objectiveThe characteristics of professional education in aquatic animal medicine is understood through the survey, and the course case library suitable for the needs of modern undergraduate teaching is built, with training applied talents to meet the requirements of the times as the goal, and strengthening the reform of college education mode and improving the quantity and quality of personnel training as the guiding ideology.

      4.2 Main taskFeasibility analysis and location research of case library; analysis and research on the composition, content and structure of the case library; organic integration of case library and undergraduate training program.

      4.3 Implementation planThe characteristics of Guangdong professional education in aquatic animal medicine are fully understood through the survey. With the goal of cultivating applied talents to meet the requirements of the times, and the course of Aquatic Animal Inspection and Quarantine as the main line, the main content, planning and design scheme of the case library with local characteristics are studied, and a new teaching mode and method closely combined with modern information technology is established, in order to strengthen reform of the educational model of colleges and universities and improve the quality of talent training.

      4.4 Implementation plan(i) Cooperation with Guangzhou Huibiao Testing Technology Center. The center has studied and determined the teaching model and the positioning of case library based on the teaching objectives of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal, as well as the needs of industry and talents. (ii) Collection, collation and analysis of local characteristic teaching resources. The teaching resources related to Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal are fully investigated together with Guangzhou Huibiao Testing Technology Center. By collecting, sorting and classifying, it provides material basis for the design and planning of the construction of characteristic case library. (iii) Design, planning and content analysis of case library construction. According to the course outline of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal, combined with local teaching resources, Guangzhou Huibiao Testing Technology Center will guide the relevant testing technology, and be responsible for shooting the case video of high-risk pathogen detection. The project leader will comprehensively organize and plan the construction of the case library. (iv) Sharing and management mechanism of case library. The operation, management and sharing mechanism of the case library is studied together with Guangzhou Huibiao Testing Technology Center to expand the utilization efficiency of the case library.

      5 Project innovation point, application value and promotion value

      5.1 Project innovation pointThe project will make use of the technical advantages of Guangzhou Huibiao Testing Technology Center in the testing field, and jointly build the case library of Aquatic Animal Inspection and Quarantine. The construction of the case library will be helpful to solve the dilemma of the current understanding of high-risk pathogen detection technology and the lack of practical operation among aquatic animal medical students.

      5.2 Application value and promotion value(i) The construction of the case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal can provide a reference for the construction of the teaching resource library of aquatic animal medicine major, and also provide a scientific reference for the construction of other course resource libraries. (ii) The teaching resource library can be used in Guangdong Province and even the whole country. (iii) It improves the teaching level of teachers. In the process of building the case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal, the teachers in the course group need to learn the development concept of the course resource library, understand it thoroughly and clarify their thoughts. Meantime, teachers need to read a lot of materials and go into many enterprises to collect relevant resources, and also learn great deal of knowledge invisibly, thus improving their professional level and enriching the scope of knowledge.       6 Conclusions

      Undergraduates of aquatic animal medicine are important sources of aquaculture talents. Only those undergraduates with independent thinking ability, scientific decision-making ability and clinical practice ability can meet the training orientation of "high-level and applied" fishery medical talents majoring in aquatic animal medicine in China. Undoubtedly, case teaching is one of the effective methods to achieve this goal. However, at present, the construction of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal case library in China is not mature, and there is no sample for reference. The preliminary construction of the case library of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal provides a new idea for the construction of case library, but there are still shortcomings. It is hoped to continuously improve the quality of Inspection and Quarantine of Aquatic Animal case library through cooperation with other universities and companies in the future.
