Co-organized by China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Information Office of the People’s Government of Shandong Province and jointly hosted by Jining Municipal People’s Government and Xufang International Media, a series of activities for the award ceremony of “My Story of Chinese Culture” International Short Video Competition was held in Jining, Shandong.
Gao Anming, deputy president and editor-in-chief of CICG, noted in his speech that featuring Chinese traditional culture, intangible cultural heritage, urban cultural tourism, food and leisure, “My Story of Chinese Culture” International Short Video Competition has received plenty of excellent short videos with international vision, which are suitable for international communication and reflect the distinctive characteristics of Chinese culture, gathering many excellent narrators, creators, and disseminators of Chinese culture. Combining the international communication advantages of CICG with the regional cultural characteristics of Shandong is a vivid practice of promoting traditional Chinese culture worldwide, which is believed to help enhance the visibility and reputation of Jining in the international communication of new media, diversify the way Chinese cultural stories are told, and deepen the connection between Chinese and world civilizations.
Sun Yingzhuo, deputy director of the Information Office of the People’s Government of Shandong Province, noted in her speech that as a large cultural and tourism province, Shandong has a profound Confucian culture, a magnificent red culture, a beautiful landscape, and a simple and warm folk experience. Shangdong is world-famous for Mount Tai, Baotu Spring, and Confucius, the slogan of “Friendly Shandong with All Products Available” has also become well-known. In recent years, Shandong has made unprecedented efforts and commitment to cultivate fertile soil for arts and humanities, promote the innovative transformation and development of traditional Chinese culture, and strengthen its international communication influence. “My Story of Chinese Culture” International Short Video Competition is centered around the idea of sharing Chinese culture with audiences abroad, and the works collected are rich in content and diverse in genre, vividly displaying the beauty of both China and Shandong Province through the camera. The event has effectively expanded the influence of Confucianism in the exchange and mutual appreciation of world civilizations and enhanced the overseas popularity and reputation of Shandong’s image. We hope more creators worldwide will find beauty and stories in it and fall in love with Shandong. They can create more and better artworks so that the world may know a more authentic Shandong in an all-encompassing way.
A total of 8,194 short videos were received this year, covering more than 40 countries and regions on five continents, of which 535 works came from 16 cities in Shandong. 40 winning works were finally awarded after three rounds of evaluation by seven professional judges of Chinese and international film and television, international communication, and the Internet.
“My Story of Chinese Culture” was founded by CICG in 2018, and the first International Short Video Competition was held in 2019. It is open to Chinese and foreign creator teams, foreign anchors, self-media teams, and individuals to submit multilingual and multiform China-themed short videos, which aim to show the unique perspective of foreigners observing China, record the wonderful journey of foreigners in China, gather stories of China from all over the world, and present the integration of China and the world from a third-party perspective. After four years of development, “My Story of Chinese Culture” has become a famous international communication outlet, including multilingual short video creation, annual competitions, special competitions, international communication seminars on new media, and thematic exhibitions.
