The London Book Fair 2023 opened in April at Olympia Exhibition Centre in London, United Kingdom, with a wide range of fine Chinese books, gaining widespread attention.
Over 40 domestic publishing units, such as China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration (China International Communications Group, CICG), China Publishing Group, China Education Publishing amp; Media Group, Shanghai Century Publishing Group, Jiangsu Phoenix Publishing amp; Media Group, China Youth Publishing Group, and China National Publications Import amp; Export (Group) Corporation, participated in the book fair.
The Chinese exhibition area covered an area of 386 square meters, showcasing over 2,300 types of books.
In addition, participating Chinese publishers emphasized international cooperation on low-carbon development, showcasing books that promote China’s green and low-carbon development concept, actions, and achievements. They also selected a collection of literary masterpieces that reflect Chinese aesthetic interests, disseminate contemporary Chinese values, and depict shared human values. Original children’s books with Chinese elements were also featured.
On the opening day of the book fair, various activities, such as the publishing cooperation signing ceremony for thematic books like An Open China and China, Land of Ceremony and Propriety, the art exhibition of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, and the launch of the English version of the novel Hope and Life, attracted a large number of visitors.
Hu Kaimin, president of Foreign Languages Press, one of the participating publishers, emphasized the crucial role of book publishing in facilitating mutual exchange and recognition between different civilizations. He stated that foreign editions of An Open China and China, Land of Ceremony and Propriety contribute to a better understanding of a continuously open and peace-loving China by the world.
The London Book Fair, which began in 1971, is one of the most important events in the global publishing industry. This year’s book fair will last until the 20th, during which Chinese exhibitors will hold more than 30 publishing exchange activities.
