Lyu Jianlin, born in 1980 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, is a member of the Communist Party of China and holds the title of agronomist. He serves as the Party Branch Secretary and President of the Shaoxing Yuecheng Agricultural Innovators Development Association, as well as the director of the Yuewazi Family Farm. Lyu is also the founder of the “Yuewazi” and “Shanyuehui” brands. Lyu has won numerous honors, including the “Rural Industry Revitalization Leader” in Zhejiang Province, the top talent in the “Famous Scholars’ Hometown” Elite Talent Program in Shaoxing, Shaoxing’s Rural Leadership Talent, Shaoxing’s Rural Craftsman, Shaoxing’s Rural Revitalization “Leading Talent,” and the 2022 Outstanding Contribution Individual for Rural Revitalization in Shaoxing. His farm has been recognized as the “Beautiful Orchard” in Yuecheng District, a “Primary and Secondary School Labor Education Practice Base” in Yuecheng, a “Rural Science Popularization Demonstration Base” in Shaoxing, an “Advanced Individual Business Household,” “High-Quality Green Technology Demonstration Base,” “Demonstrative Family Farm,” and “Demonstration Base for Agri-preneurs” in Zhejiang.
Careful Planning for the Long-Term, Actively Engaging in Agriculture
After graduation, Lyu Jianlin entered the textile and chemical industry to start his own business. With his far-reaching vision and outstanding business abilities, he overcame numerous obstacles and achieved significant success over the years. Just as he was preparing to expand his industry and explore new markets, the Party and government issued the call for rural revitalization. Growing up in the countryside, Lyu had an unbreakable bond with rural life. After much contemplation, he made the resolute decision to return to his hometown, start a business, and establish a new career in the rural area. Initially, his family did not understand his decision and even discouraged him, but Lyu remained steadfast and worked hard to convince them. Gradually, they came around and began to support his agricultural venture.
In 2012, Lyu Jianlin began leasing land in his hometown, Hou Mountain Village, and successively acquired over 100 mu (approximately 16.7 acres) of land from local villagers for agricultural production. By 2018, the Yuewazi Family Farm officially established itself in Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, focusing on the cultivation of kiwifruit, cherries, peaches, and various green vegetables. Driven by the principle that ensuring food safety means being responsible to the people, Lyu Jianlin was determined to grow truly high-quality, healthy, and safe green agricultural products. He insisted on environmentally friendly, non-polluted farming practices, using only organic fertilizers and avoiding greenhouse cultivation and growth regulators for kiwifruit. However, as Lyu was new to farming, he initially lacked experience and knowledge, and his early efforts were not promising. When harvest time arrived, while the kiwifruit tasted good, the fruit was small and unattractive, and consumer acceptance was low, resulting in significant losses that season.
Lyu Jianlin realized that the road to success in agriculture was long and required further learning. To improve his knowledge, he diligently studied agricultural practices, sought advice from agricultural experts, and consulted local “soil experts” and “field scholars.” He even spent six months traveling to Sichuan, Jiangshan, and Shangyu to visit agricultural research institutions, learning from their experiences. Lyu carefully integrated all the knowledge he gained and implemented multiple improvements. His hard work eventually paid off, and in the following year, the cultivation methods underwent a dramatic transformation, with kiwifruit production finally on the right track. The previously idle land was revitalized.
Today, the farm operates smoothly, with seasonal outputs of approximately 15,000 kilograms of cherries, 5,000 kilograms of figs, and 1,000 kilograms of sugarcane. Under Lyu Jianlin’s dedication to green and high-quality products, the “Yuewazi” brand and trademark registered by Yuewazi Family Farm have earned the certification of a non-polluted product base and have met the certification standards of one of the “three product certifications.”
Seizing the Pulse of the Current Market, Creating a Model Leisure Farm
In 2020, Lyu Jianlin had a new idea for his agricultural business. To explore the retail market, he created a direct sales model for the farm, bringing more rural agricultural products to the cities. “The mountains are far, but don’t stop climbing.” In order to learn from experience and develop new models, he invested heavily in joining a nationwide fruit chain store to gain knowledge. He also registered the “Yueguoguo” fruit chain store, which not only helped local farmers expand their sales channels but also alleviated local employment issues. However, due to the impact of the pandemic, “Yueguoguo” suffered a heavy blow and failed miserably. This experience was a valuable lesson for Lyu Jianlin in his agricultural entrepreneurship journey. After deep reflection, he decided to refocus on the farm, develop more new products, explore new planting models, and improve the utilization of land resources.
To achieve this, he actively engaged in agricultural innovation research, inventing multiple practical patents that injected “new vitality” into his efforts to “use technology to help agriculture.” These patents not only facilitated the daily management of orchards for fruit farmers but also significantly improved work efficiency and increased economic returns.
With the growing demand for entertainment, experiences, and leisure activities among visitors, simple activities like fruit picking and sightseeing have gradually fallen behind. Leisure agriculture has thus become a new trend in agricultural development. Lyu Jianlin seized this opportunity, combining agricultural experiences with study tours. He carefully crafted various experiential leisure projects such as traditional clay stoves, Beggar’s Chicken, fishing, and agricultural hands-on activities. These allowed visitors to not only learn about agriculture but also immerse themselves in the joys of rural life and experience the charm of agricultural culture.
At the same time, Lyu Jianlin did not forget his original intentions. “Fertile soil and bringing the phoenix to nest,” he provided over 100 employment opportunities for local villagers, directly boosting local land efficiency and increasing farmers’ income by over 10,000 yuan per household annually. He also actively took on social responsibilities, providing 2,200 opportunities for university students to participate in social practice. Through the development of agricultural products and related leisure agriculture, he contributed to sales of over 10 million yuan, adding his strength to the cause of “common prosperity.”
All Rivers Flow to the Sea for Agriculture, United Efforts to Create the Future
As the older generation of farmers ages and the younger generation of rural youth moves to other industries, there is a serious shortage of high-quality agricultural talent. “Cultivate talent, retain talent, and utilize talent” has become Lyu Jianlin’s focus in agricultural development. In June 2021, to better integrate agricultural talent resources, Lyu Jianlin took the lead and, together with like-minded agricultural entrepreneurs, founded the Yuecheng District Agri-preneur Development Union, where he has served as the first president to this day.
Under Lyu Jianlin’s leadership, the union has actively promoted communication and cooperation between agricultural enterprises and institutions, encouraging young agricultural entrepreneurs to take root in the “three rural issues” (agriculture, rural areas, and farmers) and guiding more talented individuals to work in the countryside. To better promote agricultural product sales and stimulate the agricultural economy, he led the union in creating a platform for displaying and selling agricultural products. The union organized a series of events, bringing high-quality agricultural products to government agencies, state-owned enterprises, universities, and other venues, holding over 80 agricultural markets, attracting more than 100,000 participants, and generating direct sales of over two million yuan. Through Lyu Jianlin’s efforts to “build bridges,” the union opened a “Yuezhou Qingnong” brand agricultural product experience store in the Yuecheng District Administrative Center, allowing more people to taste high-quality agricultural products from Yuecheng District. Lyu Jianlin also focused on developing the rural digital economy. Leveraging the union’s platform, he established agricultural broadcast bases and built self-media platforms such as Douyin (TikTok), WeChat Channels, and Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book), focusing on live-stream sales. He has conducted over 60 live broadcasts, promoting agricultural bases and products, helping to expand sales channels, and boosting agricultural product sales.
Thanks to Lyu Jianlin’s efforts, the union leveraged its platform advantages, establishing the Yuecheng Agricultural Entrepreneur Liaison Station for People’s Representatives and the Yuecheng Agricultural Entrepreneur Development Union Party Branch, where Lyu Jianlin serves as the Party Branch Secretary. Through Party-building collaborative construction, they organized a series of activities. Lyu Jianlin’s “common prosperity workshop” initiative, developed through contract-based joint construction, expanded online sales channels, benefiting farmers and increasing their income. This initiative earned the union recognition as one of the first “Common Prosperity Bases” in Shaoxing City. At the same time, Lyu Jianlin did not forget to focus on talent development. He collaborated with the Shaoxing Supply and Marketing Cooperative to lead a group of 52 individuals in intermediate agricultural manager training, producing seven senior-level agricultural managers and four intermediate-level managers. He also served as an entrepreneurial mentor at Zhejiang Yuexiu Foreign Language College and Zhejiang Agricultural and Commercial Vocational College, providing comprehensive training for over 100 skilled talents, injecting new vitality into the sustainable development of the agricultural industry. Under Lyu Jianlin’s leadership, the union has been recognized with numerous honors, including the “Outstanding Collective for Beautiful Yuecheng Construction” and the Yuecheng District 4A-level Social Organization. It has set a new benchmark for agricultural development in Yuecheng District. Its promotional and sales efforts have created new opportunities for agricultural development and opened up a new chapter for the district’s agriculture.
With Great Love in His Heart and Responsibility on His Shoulders
Lyu Jianlin has always carried a heart full of love and responsibility. Throughout the three years since the founding of the Yuecheng Agri-preneur Development Union, he has organized more than 20 public welfare activities, including visiting agricultural enterprises affected by disasters, pairing with low-income farmers for support, showing appreciation to urban guardians, providing public services to help farmers, facilitating the sale of agricultural products from Quzhou through mountain-sea collaboration, and offering assistance to lonely elderly people and vulnerable groups, among other charitable acts. His good deeds have not only been widely recognized by society but have also injected more humanistic care into the agricultural development of Yuecheng District.
Looking ahead, Lyu Jianlin plans to continue learning and growing. He hopes to improve himself and be capable of standing on a broader stage to contribute more to the development of his hometown. His next goal is to focus on the integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism, further combining the agricultural industry, rural culture, and tourism. This will make land use more efficient, empower the countryside with culture, attract more tourists, and generate multiple streams of income.
As the soil for rural innovation and entrepreneurship becomes increasingly fertile, many young farmers like Lyu Jianlin, who carry dreams and are willing to shoulder social responsibility, are gradually becoming high-quality agricultural entrepreneurs. They are contributing to the cause of rural revitalization. Lyu Jianlin says, “With the dream of contributing to my hometown, I will courageously move toward broader ‘fields.’ Just as mountains rise higher from humble beginnings, and rivers become vast as they converge, achieving rural revitalization and leading more villagers to common prosperity will be my lifelong wish.” He believes that in the future, he will work hand in hand with other agricultural workers who support and dedicate themselves to agriculture, driving the development of agriculture in Yuecheng District and creating a beautiful blueprint for the countryside, while taking responsibility for rural revitalization!
