被人冤枉可不是什么好滋味，這個時候最盼望的就是沉冤昭雪、真相大白，可以“還一個清白名聲”出來。這個“還人清白”可以用“clear (one's) name”來表示。

這里，“clear”是一個動詞，意思是“to free from a legal charge or imputation of guilt”。比如：

The verdict cleared the accused man. (裁決宣判被告人無罪。)

The company gave him an opportunity to clear himself. (公司給了他一個辯白的機會。)

我們也可以用“acquit”這個詞來表示同樣的意思：to free or clear from a charge or accusation。但兩者之間還是有些細微的區(qū)別的：

She not only wanted to be acquitted, but aslo she wanted to clear her name entirely. (她不僅要求被判無罪，還要求徹底還她清白。)

So, “clear” carries a sense of “purity”, of washing away a stain on one's reputation. clear有“徹底洗刷掉污點” 的意思，acquit指的是司法行為。
