This is not a common letter from a pen pal but a special message to be sent to aliens on Gliese 581d， the nearest Earth-like planet outside our Solar System. During Australia's National Science Week in August， Cosmos magazine launched a project called \"Hello from Earth.\" People around the world visited HelloFromEarth.net and wrote down 25，880 messages to our alien neighbors.

\"It's like a 'message in a bottle (瓶中信)' cast out into the stars，\" said Wilson da Silva， editor of Cosmos. \"What's interesting is not just whether there's anyone listening， but what the public will say to intelligent life on another planet， given the opportunity.\"

The World's Largest Soap Bubble 吹出世界最大肥皂泡

British \"Bubbleologist\" Samsam， 37， created a free-floating bubble， stretching 20ft by 5ft by 5ft at its biggest. Created with a piece of rope between two sticks and a top secret bubble solution， this giant soap bubble will probably help Samsam break the Guinness World Record set in 2005 in the U.S.

Samsam started his love with bubbles in 1989. He developed his secret bubble solution over 20 years of trial and error. Before this， Samsam had already earned two \"World First\" titles. In 2007， he managed to place 50 people inside one of his bubbles. A year later， he successfully put the most bubbles—66—inside a bubble. Now， Samsam owns his own company and earns a living doing what he loves best.

Contact Lenses for Animals 動物也戴隱形眼鏡

A German company called S V Technologies has produced contact lenses for animals， who suffer from cataracts (白內(nèi)障). Cataracts generally mean blindness for animals， unlike for humans. And because animals have short life spans， having cataracts means losing quality of life in a greater share of that life.

Since its launch in 2008， this company has helped many animals， including a sea lion from Sea World in San Diego， a kangaroo from an Australia nature park， and a lion from a Romanian zoo. Although the expense of such an operation and subsequent (后續(xù)的) check-ups can run into thousands of pounds， the procedure is often worth it for animals that have gone blind—and for their owners.
