“I feel that I got lucky because any sense of security1 was polled out from me, so I was forced to look forward, I had to, and was not going back. And I reach the point, where I just thought, ‘All right, Id got to work as hard as I possibly can, and see what happens.”
It was what the girl Liza said when she decided to keep up to her spirits, bravely and directly face her life and spare no efforts to earn a bright future for herself. At that moment she realized that she could have nobody to rely on or want to rely on any more, and she felt ashamed of2 her ignorance3 and chose to study in school.
As a girl that was born in a family with both parents taking drugs, she got barely love or warm from the broken family, but only starvation4, fear and begging experience. This living condition made her an introverted5 girl and she couldnt get well along with her peers, at school she even often got laughed because of her dirt and poverty, so Liza seldom went to school.
However, it seemed that god thought it was not enough for a little girl. So he decided to put more miseries6 on this little girls shoulder to make her stronger. At last her broken family truly fell apart and she was forced to be sent to a public shelter7 because she refused to attend school once and once again. After her mother died, she decided to go back school again. She worked so hard that she finished her four years course in two years, and finally got the New York Times scholar which could support her to study in Harvard.
From a homeless girl to a Harvard talent, she did find her ways to escape from the poor condition and tried to enjoy a colorful but normal life. Many of us complain a lot every day. But when compared with Lizas life, what we complain about would remain pale. Whats more, few of us have such determination as Liza did. We should learn from Liza that no matter what we confront8 in our lives, just put our bad moods aside, and try our best to make a difference. We should grasp the opportunities to succeed but not wait for it.
You are the only one that is responsible for your future. Nothing can stop you from pursuing what you want. What you will achieve9 tomorrow is decided by what you have done today. And how well you could finish your work today is greatly influenced by your attitude and emotion.
So start from now, my dear friends, dont use any excuse to step back. Control your own life, be clear on what you want and go all out to10 realize your dream. That journey cant be easy but every drop of sweat is worthwhile11 and you would certainly get much more than you ever expected.
