In the recent 20 years, tourism has developed dramatically in China, receiving millions of national or international tourists every year and earning billions of revenues. The achievements is undeniably huge but it can never obscure the disorders in the tourism market. The complaints about excessive pricing and forced purchasing have never ended, but rather are increasingly louder. A tourisits spending on tickets and “tourism souvenirs” amounts to more than half of his total spending on a trip and the proportion is getting larger. Increased budgets are gradually making travelling a luxury for common people. Many people have to lessen or even cancel their travelling plans, a choice making unsustainable the tourism development based on high price tickets or relevant shopping.
Gratifyingly, the government has realized the serious consequences of these problems and enacted the tourism law to eradicate them. Hopefully, the law can be strictly and effectively implemented to ensure healthy development of the tourism market. More importantly, more sustainable revenue channels should be found.
