When did Guangdong Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center (GICEC) join UFI? What made this application successful?
Joey Pather: This will be our first show we will attend as GICEC. However, our partner the DM has been an active member for many years. And we also have submitted the application and are waiting for the approval. For the successful application, I think UFI will have their own standards for approval.
Nowadays the number of total venues in China and individual space of each venue are increasing. What are the competitive strength of GICEC and its selfpositioning?
Joey Pather: An extensive analysis of the market has been conducted prior to the construction of the GICEC. And it was decided that our positioning will be one of the purpose built facilities rather than extensive of the square meters. For us to be able to devolve a venue on the green field site, allow us to customize the venue to our every need.
The building is put with technical specifications to meet the needs of todays and future clients. For example, the floor loading capacity is 10 tons/sqm. All halls are equipped with advanced service trenches. These trenches are equipped with 3 phase power to 220 volt, the data line, water and compressed air pipes and enabling the venue to provide services to all our customers and exhibitors. We also have 808 hang points in the ceilings to hold 100-2000kg for each hall. The building was also designed with marshaling yard to handle a build-up/break-down of 50,000 m2 event seamlessly. Besides, we will also build the first robotics and automation academy in China. It will combine the politics, science education and industry together and provide:
Education for students and skilled workers in robotics and automation form Guangdong Province and the grater Pearl River delta; consulting for industrial decision makers in robotics and automation, seminars and conferences during industrial fairs.
It will start with 10 Partners out of the robotics and automation industry: 3 robot companies(Kuka, St?ubli, Universal Robots), 4 companies with electrical automation (Phoenix Contact, Pilz, Weidmüller, Harting), 1 Systemintegrator (IBG) and 2 companies with peripherals.
Based on these factors above, we will operate the venue using tried and tested German standards together with Chinese energy, innovation, and culture to develop a high hybrid model.
Our team will focus on customer centricity and always taking care of the needs of organizers, exhibitors and customers to the event. We will also develop a culture of continuous improvement, allowing us to learn and improve on past performances.
How do you expect the UFI membership to contribute to the centers business and new opportunities? What kind of assistance do you expect from UFI as its members?
Joey Pather: I think being a member of association; your benefit is put into it. We need to be an active member, learn from our colleagues from China and overseas to show we are always keeping up with the latest trends. We will meet organizers from all around the world, that looking to expand their operation into our region and their show footprints to Foshan.
