This hotel is located on the front of the historic Bund on a prime site along the Huangpu River in the heart of Shanghai.
Designed as modern translation of the colonial Art Deco style of the Bund’s 1920s and 1930s architecture, the 15-story luxury hotel features 235 well-appointed guestrooms and suites. An adjacent 13-story building provides 40 residential apartments.
The Peninsula Shanghai is a true “grand hotel” and urban destination. The hotel is nestled among the sprawling English gardens of the former British Consulate. Guests enter through the gates of a walled courtyard with spectacular central water features. The natural surroundings of the hotel insulate guests from the city’s frantic pace.
True to the neighborhood’s Art Deco fabric, The Peninsula’s facade is composed of granite with gleaming bronze detail including mullions, decorative grilles and paneled artwork – all echoing the graciousness and grandeur of the colonial era.
To maximize foor space within the limited site, the design sculpts the building’s proportions into a series of setbacks that begin at the 10th foor. Each setback creates a magnifcent terrace oriented toward historic buildings along the Bund. Filled with fora and fauna, the terraces ofer stunning views while functioning as dynamic social spaces.
The hotel’s grand lobby opens to a terrace overlooking the river and consulate gardens, while several other spaces – including the hotel’s signature rooftop restaurant and bar, ballroom, pre-function area and spa – feature spacious terraces.
