The Duty of UN Peacekeepers

We love peace（和平）.But sometimes there are wars and disasters（災(zāi)難）in the world. Peacekeepers（維和警察）help people in those places. They help us live happily in a peaceful world.

我們熱愛和平，但有的時(shí)候這個(gè)世界會(huì)有戰(zhàn)爭和災(zāi)難。維和警察就是給這些受災(zāi)地區(qū)給予幫助的人。他們幫助我們在一個(gè)和平的世界里快樂地生活。

They come from more than 120 different countries， like China， the United Kingdom， the United States and so on. The United Nations （UN，聯(lián)合國）gives orders（命令）to them.

他們來自120多個(gè)不同的國家，如中國、英國、美國等。他們聽命于聯(lián)合國。

Blue helmets藍(lán)盔戰(zhàn)士

UN peacekeepers always wear light blue berets（貝雷帽）or helmets（頭盔）. So people call them Blue Berets or Blue Helmets（藍(lán)盔戰(zhàn)士）.On their berets or helmets，there are two letters， UN.

聯(lián)合國維和警察總是穿淺藍(lán)色貝雷帽或頭盔，所以人們叫他們“藍(lán)色貝雷帽”或“藍(lán)盔戰(zhàn)士”。在他們的貝雷帽或頭盔上印有兩個(gè)字母“UN（聯(lián)合國）”。

Their task肩負(fù)重任

The main task（主要任務(wù)）of eacekeepers is to keep peace in the world. When there is a war somewhere， peacekeepers go there to help people stay out of danger.

維和警察的主要任務(wù)就是維護(hù)世界和平。當(dāng)某處發(fā)生戰(zhàn)爭時(shí)，維和警察就到那里幫助人們遠(yuǎn)離危險(xiǎn)。

When there is an earthquake，a tsunami（海嘯）or other disasters， peacekeepers go there to help people. They help to save peoples lives and build new homes.

當(dāng)有地震、海嘯或其他災(zāi)害時(shí)，維和警察就去哪兒去幫助受災(zāi)的人們。他們幫助挽救人們的生命，幫助人們建立新的家園。

They also help build roads and bridges，treat（治療）patients，transport materials（運(yùn)輸物資）and clear explosives（爆炸物）.

他們還幫助受災(zāi)地區(qū)修建道路和橋梁、治療病人、運(yùn)輸物資和清理爆炸物。

Who can be a peacekeeper？如何成為維和警察

There are very strict rules（規(guī)定）for selecting（挑選）peacekeepers. In China， a peacekeeper must be more than 25 years old. He or she has to work as a police officer for at least（至少）eight years first. A peacekeeper should be able to（能）speak English.They should know UN rules very well. He or she must have good driving skills. And of course， they should be healthy.

維和警察的挑選規(guī)則非常嚴(yán)格。在中國，一個(gè)維和警察必須超過25歲。重要的是，他或她必須當(dāng)過警察，而且至少有8年的警察工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)。維和警察要會(huì)說英語，還要非常了解聯(lián)合國的規(guī)章制度，必須有良好的駕駛技術(shù)。當(dāng)然，他們還應(yīng)該是身體健康的。

If a person fits（符合）all the conditions（條件），he or she can take an exam. The Ministry of Public Security（公安部）holds this exam.

如果一個(gè)人符合了所有條件，他或她就可以參加考試了。公安部負(fù)責(zé)舉辦這次考試。

How to become a peacekeeper？如何和成為維和警察

After people pass the exam， they can go to receive training（接受培訓(xùn)）.It takes about three months. They take many different classes in the training， like language， shooting（射擊），driving，first aid（急救）， mine sweeping（掃雷）and how to live outdoors.

報(bào)考人員通過考試后，他們就開始接受培訓(xùn)。培訓(xùn)時(shí)間大約三個(gè)月。這其中有許多不同類的培訓(xùn)，如語言、射擊、駕駛、急救、掃雷和如何在野外生存。

After the training，they have to pass a UN exam.

訓(xùn)練結(jié)束后，他們還必須通過聯(lián)合國的考試。

May 29 is the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers（聯(lián)合國維和人員國際日）.Every year the UN holds a ceremony（典禮）for peacekeepers on this day.It makes people remember the peacekeepers working for the UN and the peacekeepers who lose their lives.

5月29日是聯(lián)合國維和人員國際日。每年，聯(lián)合國在這一天為維和警察舉行典禮，為了讓大家記住為聯(lián)合國工作的維和警察，和那些為了聯(lián)合國維和而獻(xiàn)身的警察。
