在西方講述中國人海外創(chuàng)業(yè)的故事,讓更多的西方人了解中國文化。由定居澳洲的浙江人陳靜和女兒阿黛爾合作拍攝的紀(jì)錄片《空隙》入圍中美電影節(jié)——
由定居澳洲的浙江人陳靜制片,其女兒阿黛爾導(dǎo)演拍攝的紀(jì)錄片《空隙》,入圍2017年第十三屆中美電影節(jié),獲最佳紀(jì)錄片獎(jiǎng)提名,2017年11月1日,母女雙雙應(yīng)邀赴洛杉磯走進(jìn)好萊塢紅地毯,參加電影節(jié)開幕式。
紀(jì)錄片《空隙》是第一部以澳大利亞出生的華人視角拍攝的紀(jì)錄片,講述了杭州人董芳為了滿足家庭的需求移民澳大利亞的故事。董芳原本在杭州擁有富足的生活,家庭幸福,家務(wù)有保姆打理,出門有司機(jī)開車。2011年,28歲的她在婆婆的請(qǐng)求下,只身到澳大利亞打拼,從此和丈夫隔洋分居。當(dāng)董芳在墨爾本生下第二個(gè)女兒時(shí),她意識(shí)到自己沒法接受和丈夫分居的生活狀態(tài)。為了和家人早日?qǐng)F(tuán)聚,她決心從零開始學(xué)做生意。融入澳洲社會(huì)后,她敏銳地覺察到房地產(chǎn)開發(fā)是一個(gè)不錯(cuò)的行業(yè),于是逐漸有意識(shí)地建立人脈關(guān)系。通過多年的醞釀準(zhǔn)備,最終董芳成功了!進(jìn)入房地產(chǎn)領(lǐng)域后,她努力經(jīng)營項(xiàng)目,并賺到了人生第一桶金。為了證明自己的成功,她為丈夫買了一輛法拉利轎車,這讓丈夫刮目相看。過去董芳只感受到丈夫的疼愛,如今又感受到丈夫?qū)ψ约旱男蕾p!這讓董芳獲得了從未有過的存在感和人生價(jià)值!紀(jì)錄片從董芳的故事,提出了一個(gè)值得探討的人性話題:移民國外后,如何改變一個(gè)人根深蒂固的觀念?什么樣的人生觀能給我們帶來最大的幸福感?這是紀(jì)錄片《空隙》帶給我們的思考。
說起為什么要拍攝紀(jì)錄片《空隙》,陳靜告訴我,她上世紀(jì)90年代初赴澳大利亞留學(xué),后從浙江湖州移民澳洲,目前擔(dān)任全澳26個(gè)社團(tuán)的澳大利亞浙江僑團(tuán)聯(lián)合會(huì)會(huì)長、第三屆大洋洲文聯(lián)主席,致力于中澳文化交流,被澳洲政府授予“太平紳士”稱號(hào)。她覺得有責(zé)任去記錄華人在澳洲求學(xué)、創(chuàng)業(yè)的蹤跡。陳靜在國內(nèi)當(dāng)過播音員、記者、主持人,出國后入皇家理工大學(xué)攻讀傳媒碩士學(xué)位,創(chuàng)辦過《亞太經(jīng)濟(jì)導(dǎo)報(bào)》。在澳洲,她花了近20年時(shí)間,投入大量資金,成立陳靜工作室,先后跟蹤拍攝了8集電視紀(jì)實(shí)片《少年留學(xué)走天涯》和20集電視紀(jì)實(shí)片《陳靜日記——澳洲移民的故事》、10集電視紀(jì)錄片《陳靜日記第二季——那段糾結(jié)的移民夢(mèng)》。
《陳靜日記第二季——那段糾結(jié)的移民夢(mèng)》在2016年年底完成后,她就讓女兒阿黛爾來翻譯英語,爭(zhēng)取在澳洲播出。阿黛爾出生在澳洲,8歲時(shí)在中國留學(xué)一年,畢業(yè)于墨爾本大學(xué)傳媒專業(yè),后去紐約大學(xué)帝勢(shì)(Tisch)藝術(shù)學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)影視導(dǎo)演,曾任《陳靜日記第二季》的制片人。讓陳靜想不到的是女兒遲遲不給予翻譯。
一天,陳靜找女兒交流,問及為啥不翻譯?阿黛爾說:“媽媽,你拍攝的角度和方法,適合于中國人的觀看習(xí)慣,沒有顧及西方人的看點(diǎn)。西方人的欣賞習(xí)慣和感興趣的點(diǎn)和中國人是不一樣的?!薄蛾愳o日記第二季》拍攝的就是董芳等四個(gè)中國女性在澳洲各自打拼的故事。阿黛爾認(rèn)為,西方人覺得中國人在國外為生存打拼掙錢可以夫妻兩地分居,金錢高于家庭,這讓西方人感到不可思議。
“媽媽,你從小給我講過牛郎織女的故事。在中國文化中,這是一個(gè)追求美好愛情的故事?,F(xiàn)在我們也要深挖紀(jì)錄片主角的故事,讓外國人明白,中國人夫妻分居兩地,一方到國外打拼,表面上是為了掙錢,實(shí)質(zhì)上是為了家庭生活更美好,讓子女有更好的教育?!卑Ⅶ鞝柕脑捵岅愳o心中一亮:“女兒說得對(duì),過去中國男人到海外挖金礦,掙了錢帶回家光宗耀祖。我們拍的紀(jì)錄片必須讓西方人了解中國的文化,從而理解中國的文化。讓西方人從不可思議到理解。這樣西方人才會(huì)接受你拍的紀(jì)錄片?!?/p>
于是母女兩人決定重拍一部紀(jì)錄片,陳靜讓女兒擔(dān)任導(dǎo)演,自己擔(dān)任制片人。紀(jì)錄片的題材就從《陳靜日記第二季》四個(gè)女性的故事中選,其中杭州人董芳的故事最為典型,在征得董芳同意后,母女重新拍攝名為《LACUNA(空隙)》的紀(jì)錄片。
《空隙》站在西方人看點(diǎn)——對(duì)中國文化不了解的角度,來解答他們心中的疑問,阿黛爾在劇中出鏡采訪,并擔(dān)任畫外音,拍攝很順利,中英雙語、影視雙用的紀(jì)錄片《空隙》于2017年春天封鏡。
不久,電影版本的紀(jì)錄片《空隙》,參加了2017年5月到10月中國視協(xié)城市電視臺(tái)工作委員會(huì)主辦的《人文中國第六季家園》紀(jì)錄片、專題片推選活動(dòng),獲得紀(jì)錄片二等獎(jiǎng)。由于題材內(nèi)容形式都很獨(dú)特,被推選參加2017年第十三屆中美電影節(jié)。
讓陳靜母女想不到的是,她們?cè)谀珷柋竞芸焓盏搅说谑龑弥忻离娪肮?jié)主委會(huì)發(fā)來的《空隙》入圍2017年第十三屆中美電影節(jié)最佳紀(jì)錄片獎(jiǎng)提名的通知,并邀請(qǐng)陳靜、阿黛爾參加在好萊塢舉行的電影節(jié)開幕式。
中美電影節(jié)由美國鷹龍傳媒公司主辦,聯(lián)合美國多家媒體娛樂機(jī)構(gòu)參與,并獲得了中國國家廣電總局和美國電影協(xié)會(huì)的支持。第十三屆中美電影節(jié)于2017年10月29日至11月30日在美國洛杉磯、舊金山等全美各地舉辦。
陳靜說,參加中美電影節(jié)角逐各項(xiàng)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)的故事片、紀(jì)錄片等共有500多部,其中紀(jì)錄片共有60多部,《空隙》代表中國紀(jì)錄片入圍10部最佳紀(jì)錄片獎(jiǎng)提名。
說起紀(jì)錄片《空隙》為什么能入圍中美電影節(jié),陳靜說,原因有二:一是拍攝的角度從文化上契合了西方人的看點(diǎn);二是《空隙》是第一部以澳大利亞出生的華人視角拍攝的紀(jì)錄片。
2017年11月1日,陳靜、阿黛爾分別著紅黑禮服,出現(xiàn)在好萊塢紅地毯上,作為母女雙雙應(yīng)邀參加中美電影節(jié),陳靜、阿黛爾是第一對(duì),在簽上自己的名字后,母女接受了主持人的采訪。無數(shù)中外記者的攝像鏡頭對(duì)準(zhǔn)了這對(duì)顏值頗高的母女“姐妹花”。
在電影節(jié)上,陳靜、阿黛爾和中外電影大牌明星一起交流,收獲頗多。有的導(dǎo)演還向具有東方女性氣質(zhì)美麗端莊的阿黛爾伸出橄欖枝,建議她當(dāng)演員。但是阿黛爾一一謝絕,她說,我的興趣是當(dāng)導(dǎo)演,在幕后工作。endprint
陳靜說:“在這次中美電影節(jié)上,獲最佳紀(jì)錄片獎(jiǎng)的是著名導(dǎo)演陸川拍了三年半的紀(jì)錄片《Born in China》,盡管《空隙》最后得的是入圍獎(jiǎng),但是對(duì)陳靜工作室來說,這已是一個(gè)莫大的鼓勵(lì)!我們一定要在澳洲繼續(xù)拍出更好的紀(jì)錄片,在西方講述中國人在海外的故事,讓更多的西方人了解中國文化,愛上中國?!?/p>

Documentary Tells
a Unique China Story

, a documentary directed by Scarlett Adele and jointly produced Scarlett Adele and her mother Chen Jing, gives an inside look at wealthy Chinese families forced to live apart. It was first screened in China and won some awards and then it was selected for screening at 2017 Chinese American Film Festival, an annual exchange event founded in 2004.
Scarlett Adele is an Australian born Chinese woman. Her mother Chen Jing came from China to Australia in the 1990s and is famous in China for directing and producing an 8-episode television documentary featuring how young Chinese students lived and studied in Australia and a 20-episode television documentary featuring how Chinese emigrants try to settle down and make it in Australia. Toward the end of 2016, Chen Jing concluded the 10-episode second season in Chinese about Chinese emigrants in Australia. The new season focuses upon four Chinese women entrepreneurs living and working in Australia while their husbands remained in China. The mother asked the daughter to translate the documentary into English so that it could be screened in Australia.
The daughter had studied media in an Australia college and then studied film and television direction at NYU Tisch School of the Arts before she worked as a producer for her mothers latest documentary. More knowledgeable about the west, Adele demurred. She didnt want to take the translation task on the grounds that the 10 episodes, originally meant for Chinese audience, took some Chinese ideas and practices for granted and presented them in the traditional Chinese way. The daughter explained such ideas and practices would be confusing at best to the western audience if they were incorrectly interpreted and presented.
The mother-daughter team decided to make a new documentary to explain to the west why some wealthy Chinese women are living and working for most of the year outside of Chinas borders, why this choice is often at the cost of their own marriages and family contentment, and how Chinese people understand this issue. And the mother and the daughter decided to focus on Dong Fang, one of the four women in the 10-episode documentary and Hangzhou native who made it in real estate in Australia. Scarlett Adele exchanged her job with her mothers in this new documentary. She served as the director and producer and her mother worked as a co-producer. Adele also provided English voiceover in the documentary. In the spring of 2017, , made in both English and Chinese for both film and television screening, was completed. The film version made its debut at a documentary event held from May to October 2017 by China Video Association. It won a second prize and was selected for the 13th Chinese American Film Festival for its unique presentation of a compelling subject matter, its well written and sensitive approach to cross cultural and gender issues and beautiful real life visuals.
Unexpectedly, Chen Jing and her daughter soon received a letter from the organizers of the Chinese American Film Festival notifying them that had been nominated for the Best Documentary Prize of the festival and both of them were invited to attend the opening ceremony.
In the documentary category, about 60 bid for the best documentary prize. was shortlisted into the top ten and eventually won the nomination prize. Chen Jing understood why stood out: the approach appealed to the west audience and the presentation provided a perspective of an Australia-born Chinese woman.
On November 1, 2017, the mother and the daughter dressed up and walked the red carpet at the opening ceremony. Adele received many job offers and cooperation proposals. She wanted to remain as a documentary maker.
Chen Jing found the nomination prize gratifying. “Though we received only a nomination prize, it is really a boost for Chen Jing Studio. We will continue to produce more and better documentaries and tell China stories so that the west audiences can better understand China stories and better appreciate China,” Chen Jing enthused.endprint
