Dolphins (海豚) are not fish. They are mammals (哺乳動物). They live in groups and speak to each other in their own language. But they arent the same as almost all land animals. Their brains are as big as mens and they live a long life—at least 20 or 30 years.

Like some animals, dolphins use some sounds to help them find their ways around. They also use sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. They dont use their ears to receive sounds, but use the jaws (下顎).

Its strange that dolphins are friendly to men, and for thousands of years, there are many stories about dolphins and men. In the 19th century, in a dangerous part of the sea near New Zealand, there was a dolphin. The seamen liked him very much and gave him a very good name, Jack. From 1871 to 1903, Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. In 1903, a passenger on a boat with the name of “The Penguin” shot and hurt Jack. Luckily the dolphin didnt die, and after a long time he was well again. He guided the ships through the area for nine more years, but he refused to help the boat “The Penguin”.

Today, some people still kill dolphins, but more people in the world protect them.

      Tigers as Pets

Having a pet tiger would be great, wouldnt it? It seems that many people agree, at least in the United States. The US Association of Zoos and Aquariums says that there are 12,000 privately owned pet tigers in the U.S.A.

12,000 is a very large number of tigers. It is much more than the number of tigers living in the wild. Scientists think that there are only 2,000 or 3,000 wild tigers left. Why are there so many pet tigers? One reason is that the price of a baby tiger is quite low, sometimes just 500 dollars.

Unfortunately, tigers dont make very good pets. Caring for a big cat is very expensive, difficult and dangerous. As baby tigers, they may live inside with their owner, play safely and look very cute. However, when they grow up they cannot be trusted. They still want to attack and bite like a wild tiger. According to big cat trainers, only 1 in 8 big cats can be trained sufficiently to have contact with humans. Thats after training by a professional! For this reason, nearly all pet tigers live in cages.

Because they must always live in a cage, the life of a pet tiger is sometimes unhappy. They must be locked away so their owner can clean the cage and feed them. It is not safe to touch the tiger. Pet tigers are most often kept for show rather than for companionship (陪伴). Is that the kind of pet you would want?

      61. There are more pet tigers than wild tigers in the U.S.A, arent there?

      62. How many wild tigers are there?

      63. What might be the reason that there are so many pet tigers?

      64. If you have a pet tiger, what should you do to stay safe?

      65. Why do most people keep pet tigers?

Packing for fitness. You should have your sports things packed, such as sports shoes, exercise DVDs, sports clothes and other things. Remember not to pack big things. You know you dont have enough room to keep them during a trip. When you have all the fitness things packed, you can prepare to go.

If you are staying in a hotel, you should find out if there are any sports facilities (設備) in it.

For example, most hotels have swimming pools, so it is a good idea to go swimming for some time in them.
