看了一個有關(guān)家庭教育的TED演講，內(nèi)容非常棒，但很多人對演講者多次提到的一個句子并不理解。

Parents often see reading as“school business”—something that teachers are responsible for.But there's a lot of research that shows the value of reading at home and in the community.Children who read at home with parents or caregivers have an educational advantage that lasts their whole lives.Parents,as their children's first and most important teachers,can make reading fun and inspire a lifelong love of reading.This is really important,you must take it home!

What?帶回家？老師布置了什么家庭作業(yè)嗎？

其實(shí)，這里并沒有“帶回家”之意。演講者表達(dá)的意思是“You must remember it.”,即這一點(diǎn)很重要，我們務(wù)必牢牢記住。再如：

You must take this idea home with you:Never think you will get good grades without a large vocabulary.你務(wù)必記住這點(diǎn)：沒有足夠的詞匯量，你別想取得好成績。

看到take home，我們首先想到的是“帶回家”。take home的基本意思當(dāng)然是“帶回家”。如：

You take this note home and give it to your father.把這個便條帶回家，交給你的父親。

I will take some souvenirs home and give them to my friends.我將帶一些紀(jì)念品回去，分給我的朋友們。

但是，并不是所有的take home都是“帶回家”的意思。英語中，home的應(yīng)用非常廣泛。其基本意義是“家”，但是在很多情況下，意思有一定的遷移，我們一定要注意。除了上文所說的“記住”之意，還有很多。如：

How much do you take home with you?

這里take home的意思是“earn money”，所以本句的意思就是“你掙多少錢”。

再如at home，基本意思是“在家”。如：

My father is at home today.我父親今天在家。

但是，有時候，其含義已經(jīng)遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)超越了“在家”，如：

Don't be nervous.Just feel at home.

本句的意思是“別緊張，放松點(diǎn)”。此處，feel at home 就是“放松”之意。

Mrs Hill is not at home to anyone except close relatives.希爾夫人一般不接待客人，除非是非常親近的親屬。

本句中，at home的意思是“expect and（be）ready to receive visitors”，漢語意思為“好客”。

在閱讀中，我們還經(jīng)常會遇到和home 有關(guān)的詞組，其意思也有很大的延伸。

home bird 可不是“家養(yǎng)的鳥”，而是比較流行的“宅男；宅女”之意，即“喜歡待在家里的人”。

My sister is a real home bird,and even seldom goes shopping with friends.我姐姐是個很宅的人，甚至很少和朋友出去逛街。

bring home不是“帶回家”，而是“使某人了解某事的重要性”。

The accident brought home to me the danger of careless driving.這次事故讓我認(rèn)識到了粗心駕駛的危害。

drive home不是“開車回家”，而是“講透徹”。

A question of this kind is often effective in driving a point home.這類問題通常對講清楚一個觀點(diǎn)很有效。

go home除了“回家”，還有“打中目標(biāo)；擊中要害”之意。

This remark went home.這個評論擊中了要害。

hit home也有同樣的意思。

The criticism hit home.這個批評一針見血。
