Most people trust their friends and family, but Danes trust people they have never met. Trust is an invisible and important part of Danish society. It helps to save time and money.
Its said that Danes are the most trusting people in the world. Its because in Denmark, great attention is paid to traditions, customs and festivals. Denmark is a small country, and people usually grow up with friends, work with friends and live near friends and families. They share a lot of similarities, and they expect everyone to follow rules, and behave properly. Even when strangers meet with each other, they have very little suspicion(猜疑).
Denmark has high levels of social trust. People trust each other and the government, the hospitals, and the police. Trust is important in business, too. People are assumed6 to be honest. Danes pay the worlds highest taxes7. The Danish health system is tax-funded8 and free for the patient. Danish schools are also funded by taxes and free for students. The idea is, everyone gives to the community and the community care for all.
If you are invited to dinner or a party, it is polite to send flowers in advance9. Gifts are expected to be wrapped10 to show respect. Danes love red wrapping paper. People open gifts right away when they receive them.
If you are going to meet with a Dane, remember to be on time. They expect someone to arrive on time, not early, not late. And when you promise a Dane, you better keep it. Any one thats not honest will have no friends in Denmark.
Maybe thats why Danes are happy people. They live like they are children in the world, and believe“a smile is the shortest distance between two people”.
