      我們從藏書中獲得了什么

      Step 2 理解·文本解讀

      Ⅰ. 1. Argumentation. 2. D

      Ⅱ.1.Topic 2.opinion 3.advice 4.conclusion

Ⅲ.1.Kondo's philosophy is getting rid of books that don't give us joy.

      2. The author holds an unfavorable attitude towards Kondo's philosophy.

I accidentally entered the territory of disagreeing with Kondo's philosophy... (Para. 1)

She is entirely misguided when she says...(Para. 1)

Do NOT listen to Marie Kondo or KonMari in relation to books. (Para. 2)

But be assured that this joyless person will not follow Kondo's advice... (Para. 3)

      3. Fill your apartment and world with books.Every human needs an extensive library, not clean and boring shelves.

      4. Kondo helps a woman remove her books by“waking them up”, that is, tapping it with fairy finger emotions. Meanwhile, the books are divided into “keep and get-gone” categories. Then Kondo and the woman thank the books for serving their purpose.

      5. In the author's opinion, Kondo's practice concerning books is deeply problematic and ridiculous. The author supports his opinion by listing several reasons. To begin with, the criteria for measuring how good a book is should not be limited to the feeling of joy. Secondly, books, as a necessary part of art, don't necessarily exist to serve a purpose, outcome or a destination. Instead, books exist on their own terms and timeline. Last but not least, books whether read or unread, can benefit our life and contribute to success in life.

      6. Books are a reflection of people's thoughts and values and people should ponder whether these books will be beneficial to their life moving forward.

      7. The author is in disagreement with Kondo's advice. Below are her reasons. First and foremost, books are not limited to reflecting our thoughts and values. Instead, on most occasions, they reflect someone else's thoughts and values. Besides, a person's book collection covers a wide variety of emotions and topics, which will inspire many possibilities of reading life. Lastly, the question of whether books will be beneficial to our life moving forward is actually beyond our ability.

      8. Quotation(引證法): The definition of joy for the many people yelling at me on Twitter is: “A feeling of great pleasure and happiness or a thing that causes joy, success or satisfaction.” (Para. 5)

Exemplification( 例證法): This is why, on entering your living space, people immediately migrate to examine your bookshelves, rather than search in your sock drawers. (Para. 9)

Induction to absurdity(歸謬法): But I can't imagine what a blank collection of physical books I'd be left with is if they had to inspire joy.(Para.10)

      9. Rather than following Kondo's rules, I'd like to suggest another: it should be a must that all living spaces come with built-in bookshelves.(Para. 10)

Ⅳ. 1. The author writes the passage in a logic and clear way by using many techniques of argumentative writing such as exemplification, quotation and induction to absurdity. However, the passage would be more convincing if the author had classified the books under debate into a more specific category, that is, excluding the tattered (破舊的) books.

      2. Personally speaking, I take neither side of them. I'd like to combine their suggestions together. Books are part of civilization of human beings, whose impact is beyond calculation. Consequently, it is unwise for people to get rid of books merely for the reason that they don't serve their purpose or inspire joy. There's no denying that books play an important part in our life, so every house should be equipped with a bookshelf to contain the books of various topics and different levels. What's more, I do think we should remove some old and torn books so as to make room for more new books. Only when we learn to let go can we hold on to our life more efficiently.

Step 3 運用·讀寫整合1. Hello, Marie, I do appreciate your philosophy on tidying up house to spark joy. However, I don't altogether approve of it when it comes to books. As for the old and torn books, I prefer to remove them to make room for new books. But, as for other books, I'd like to keep them and put them on my bookshelves to enrich my bookshelves as well as my spiritual world. My choice lies with a bookshelf covering an extensive array of books instead of clean, boring shelves. On top of it,books, especially literary works are part of art, which shed light upon our life. Even though these books can't bring us instant joy, they make our life more profound by challenging us and inspiring us to think. F or instance, many books like One Hundred Years of Solitude, Remembrance of Things Past and Ulysses are obscure to read, but they are essential to the wisdom of the human beings. Plus, more often than not, books reflect others' thoughts and values, which adds a dimension to our life. In a word, access to a vast number of topics can contribute to the growth of our mind and help us gain insight into the world.

      2. The reasons behind this are various. To begin with, people have access to various ways of entertainment such as mobile phone, iPad, etc.Under the circumstances, people have a tendency to turn to these electronic devices when they have spare time. For example, absorbed in various apps like TikTok, people will easily lose track of time, let alone read books. What's more, chances are that people are misguided by the concept that reading books, especially literature, is of little use to our life. Consequently, many people are a little bit utilitarian by only reading some practical books or reading no books at all. Last but not least, as the pace of life quickens, people have little time left for reading.

My suggestions are as follows. For one thing, people should be less addicted to electronic devices. Instead, they should spare time for reading. In particular, parents are supposed to set a good example to their children by devoting more time to reading or accompanying their children in reading books. For another, the government and the society should raise people's awareness of the benefits of reading. In particular, schools and community may as well lay more emphasis on books by holding some book activities, such as competitions and writing.

      Step 4 提升·素養(yǎng)建構(gòu)

      Ⅰ. 1. ①topic ②claim ③counterclaim④Claim-Counterclaim pattern

      2. The author used logic connectives such as“but”, “while”, “This is why” etc. to introduce her opinion in this article.

      3. “This” in Para. 4 refers to waking up any book by tapping it with fairy finger motions.“This”in Para. 5 refers to getting rid of stuff that doesn't give you joy. The function of “this” is to connect the contents, avoiding repetition as well as making the article more logical and coherent.

      4. “Kondo's philosophy”, “KonMari Method”,“Kondo's advice” and “Kondo's rules” all refer to the similar concept. Besides, “get rid of books”,“keep and get-gone”, “removing one's unread books”and“remove”all refer to the similar concept.

      Dear Peter,

Hearing that you are going to pay a visit to our school this summer vocation, I'd like to share some basic information about body language in China.

Influenced by culture, body language varies from country to country. So it's wise of you to pay attention to several cultural differences between Ireland and China. Firstly, you'd better make visual contact with the person you're communicating with because when you're speaking to someone in China, it is considered a positive aspect of body language. Secondly, it's smart of you to shake hands with someone you meet for the first time because it means showing amiability to others in our culture. Equally important is to avoid kissing others when you're here because it usually happens only between lovers, which is different from the tradition in your country.

Sincerity is the key to effective communication.I hope when you're in China, you will do as we Chinese do.

      Looking forward to your visit.

      Yours,

      Li Hua

      Paragraph 1:

“How was your dinner date?” asked my wife when I got home. “A very nice date. Much more than I could have imagined,” I answered. A few days later, my mother died of a heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I could not do anything for her. Later, I received an envelope from the restaurant. An attached note said, “I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there, but I paid for two plates—one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, son.”Paragraph 2:

At that moment,I understood the importance of saying “I LOVE YOU! ” in time. To love someone is to let her know and to make her feel beautiful and lovable. Some favorite words, even if they are the stupidest or not satisfying enough, are actually very beautiful. The key is to see whether you are willing to say them out. Then take the time to say“I LOVE YOU! ” or “I LIKE YOU! ”. Give your family the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till some other time.

How is everything? I am going to study in a high school in New Zealand for a year as an exchange student. I hope you can offer me some information about body language in class.

As you know, body language is such an important part of our daily communication that it is necessary for me to know some body language popular among students in New Zealand. For example, if I want to ask the teacher a question in class, shall I raise my hand as I do in China? In case I don't feel well in class, which body language shall I use to let the teacher know?

      Paragraph 1:

On the fourth day, without warning, Aunt Letty announced, “It's time to meet Hercules.” She marched into the stables with light steps, and Aunt Letty was right again. Hercules did look very gentle. “You feed him,” I said nervously. “I'll watch.” Aunt Letty didn't try to force me into feeding Hercules. Instead, she stood quietly as Hercules lowered his head, and she whispered to him. She scratched Hercules on his neck and offered him an apple. The scene reached something deep inside me.

      Paragraph 2:

Without speaking, Aunt Letty held her hand open for me to take. Reluctantly, I let her guide my hand toward Hercules and allowed him to sniff my hand. “It feels like silk! ” I said, both surprised and excited. An hour later, I was scratching Hercules on his neck and offering him carrots. It seemed that the animal liked me quickly. That night, as we headed toward the house for dinner, I was inspired. With arms spreading wide, I said loudly, “Take a breath of that sweet country air! ”
