Ⅰ. accident 可以表示事故，指不幸的意外事件。也表偶然的事件。

① Twenty people were killed in the railway accident

② He met with an accident. 這完全是偶然的事。

Ⅱ. Incident 的意思是事件，尤指與較重大的事件相比，顯得不重要的事件。它還可以表引起國際爭端或戰(zhàn)爭的事件。

① It is a quite common incident.這是很普通的事。

② The Lugouqiao incident accrued on July 7th， 1937. 蘆溝橋事件發(fā)生于1937年7月7日。

slip，slide，glide這組同義詞的一般含義為“滑動”或“滑”。

（1）.slip 所表示的“滑”與slide相比，接觸面更滑，但不象slide那樣持續(xù)地滑動，而是突然的或短暫的滑動，如滑倒。用于比喻時，可以表示“口誤”（a slip of the tongue），“筆誤”（a slip of the pen）;“悄悄地溜進(jìn)……”（slip into…）“輕巧而迅速地穿過”（slip through）等等。

He was still mumbling something about hospitals at the end of the party when he slipped on a piece of ice and broke his left leg.

宴會結(jié)束時，他仍在咕噥著醫(yī)院里的事。說著說著，他在一塊冰上滑倒，跌斷了左腿。

（2） slide所表示的“滑動”含有這樣幾層意思：光滑的面接觸，通常為加速運動。用于比喻時，表示不自主地陷入某種習(xí)慣等。

For one agonizing moment， the dish was perched precariously on the bank of the canal， but it suddenly overbalanced and slid back into the water.

在令人坐臥不安的一瞬間，餡餅盤懸懸乎乎地停在運河岸邊，然而它突然失去了平衡，滑回水中。

（3） glide 可以像slide那樣持續(xù)地滑，但不一定像slide那樣以面接觸進(jìn)行滑動。鳥在天空中翱翔，小船在水面蕩漾，都可以用glide表示。這時雖有空氣和水與運動著的鳥和船這樣的物體之間的面接觸，但與slide運動相比，可把這種面接觸的摩擦力視為極小的數(shù)值，好象沒有摩擦力一樣。此外，諸如自行車順著下坡路面自行滑動，和即將到站的火車靠其慣性作自行滑動，也可以用glide表示。
