電影《海洋之歌》（Song of the Sea）根據(jù)愛爾蘭的一個(gè)關(guān)于塞爾奇小精靈的民間傳說改編而成。導(dǎo)演湯姆·摩爾與兒子在一次旅行的途中，因?yàn)榭吹胶┥嫌腥瞬稓⒑１械酵葱?，再?lián)想到愛爾蘭傳說中海豹象征逝者的靈魂，就此構(gòu)思了整個(gè)故事。影片處處可見愛爾蘭、蘇格蘭古老傳說的蹤跡。比如墻上的那些圖畫、線條和精靈石像，令人想起凱爾特人（Celtic）的塑像和雕刻上的花紋。

影片講述男孩本（Ben）和父母住在海邊懸崖上的燈塔內(nèi)，一家人其樂融融。溫柔的母親布羅娜（Bronach）會(huì)教Ben唱歌?？墒且惶焱砩?，母親生下妹妹西爾莎（Saoirse）后突然離世，留下Ben和憂傷的父親。Saoirse六歲了仍不會(huì)說話，Ben也不喜歡妹妹。

一天，住在城里的祖母來探訪。晚上，Saoirse找到母親的白色袍子，穿上后竟化身為海豹，跳入海中與其他海豹一同暢游。祖母誤以為孫女險(xiǎn)些葬身大海，于是把兩個(gè)孩子帶到城市居住。Ben和妹妹無法適應(yīng)城市的生活，就偷偷離開想要返回老家。一路上，Ben學(xué)會(huì)了關(guān)心妹妹?？墒荢aoirse的身體日漸虛弱，連頭發(fā)也變白了。后來他們闖入了精靈世界，逐漸揭開了Saoirse的身世之謎。然而，貓頭鷹女巫正四處搜尋精靈，奪走他們的感情，把他們變成石像。只有海豹精靈Saoirse的那支海洋之歌才能解救這場(chǎng)危機(jī)……

在一個(gè)風(fēng)景如畫的小島上，小男孩本和懷有身孕的母親布羅娜度過了一個(gè)快樂而難忘的夜晚。不久后，妹妹西爾莎出生，而母親卻撒手人寰。

Mum： Will you try it with me， Ben？

Ben： Okay. Uh... I forget.

Dad： Bedtime. Finish up， you two.

Ben： Dad， look at the selkie（海豹精靈）. Look！

Dad： Oh！

Ben： Shes singing her song so that she can send all the fairies（精靈） home across the sea. And look， look， shes turning into a seal（海豹）. Do you like the selkie？

Dad： Shes beautiful.

Ben： But we have to finish it before the baby comes.

Mum： We have lots of time to finish it， Ben. But its time to sleep now.

Ben： Okay. Cu， good boy.

Dad： （to Mum）Are you alright？

Mum： Im fine. Its fine. （to Ben） Comfy（舒服的）？

Ben： Mmm-hmm.

Mum： Now， settle down（平靜下來；躺下來）. Theres something I want to give you.

Ben： What is it？

Mum： This is an ancient（古老的） shell that my mother gave me a long time ago. Hold it to your ear and listen carefully. Youll hear the song of the sea.

Ben： I can hear the sea.

Mum： Keep listening.

Ben： Mum？

Mum： Yes？

Ben： I cant wait for the baby to come.

Were going to be best friends， arent we？

Mum： Of course you are. Youre going to be the best big brother in the world.

媽媽：本，你試著跟我一起唱，好嗎？

本：好的。噢……我忘詞了。

爸爸：該睡覺了，你們兩個(gè)別畫了。

媽媽：你們當(dāng)然會(huì)。你會(huì)成為世界上最好的哥哥。

海豹精靈西爾莎穿上自己的外套，唱出了那支海洋之歌，喚醒了石化的精靈、神靈和巨人。在北極光照耀的天空下，他們紛紛返回天上。兩兄妹的母親海豹精靈也現(xiàn)身和他們依依惜別。

Dad： Saoirse？ Shes not getting better.

Ben： She has to sing.

Dad： I dont know if she can.

Ben： Try and copy（模仿） me， Saoirse， okay？ Try it， Saoirse.

Saoirse： Between the here， between the now. Between the north， between the south. I am a selkie. A selkie of the sea.

Ben： Wow！ Its Mac Lir！

Saoirse： All truths（事實(shí)） will never bear（忍受） the promise（諾言） of old.

Ben： Dad， look. Mum！ Mum， please！ Wait. Please， dont. Please， dont take her from us. Please， Mum.

Dad： Shes all we have.

Mum： All of my kind must leave tonight. But， Saoirse， you are part human. If I take her coat， our worlds will be untangled（解開）.

Saoirse： Mum ...

Mum： And she can stay with you.

Saoirse： Mum， I want to stay.

Dad： Bronach， I loved you so much. I still do.

Ben： Cant you stay， too， Mum？ Please！

Mum： My son， remember me， in your stories and in your songs. Know that I will always love you. Always.

爸爸：西爾莎？她沒有好轉(zhuǎn)。

本：她必須得唱歌。

爸爸：我不知道她能不能唱。

本：西爾莎，跟著我唱，好嗎？試試看，西爾莎。

媽媽：我們的同類今晚必須離開。但是，西爾莎，你有人類血統(tǒng)。如果我拿走了她的外套，我們和你們的世界就不再有關(guān)聯(lián)。

西爾莎：媽媽……
