袁家軍會見史迪威將軍后代

On the afternoon of August 9， Yuan Jiajun， Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee， met with Susan Mai Easterbrook Cole and Nancy Easterbrook Millward， great-granddaughters of General Joseph Warren Stilwell， and other family members of General Stilwell attending the Commemorating Events for the 140th Birth Anniversary of General Stilwell in Chongqing.

Chongqing municipal leaders， including Chen Xinwu， Zhao Shiqing， and Zhang Guozhi， attended the meeting.

On behalf of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee， Chongqing Municipal Peoples Government， and Chongqing people， Yuan Jiajun extended thanks to the long-term contribution made by Stilwells family in promoting friendly exchanges between the Chinese and American peoples. Yuan Jiajun noted that General Stilwell lived and worked in Chongqing for a long time. He was an old friend and good friend of Chinese people， making great contributions to the victory of the Chinese Peoples War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. His name will be remembered by us all forever. Chongqing， the only centrally-administered municipality in Central and Western China， is now working to fully implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and act on national strategies， including the development of Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-Hub Mega-Region. Chongqing is taking solid steps to promote development driven by innovation and move faster to build a modern industrial system and a digital Chongqing. Chongqing will continue to consolidate and build on the results of poverty alleviation， uphold peace， facilitate development， and promote shared prosperity for the people. We remember the history and our old friends. The year 2023 marks the 140th birth anniversary of General Stilwell， an excellent opportunity for us to tell the stories of General Stilwell and the stories of friendly cooperation between the Chinese and American people. The commemorating events could help us pass on the friendship generation after generation， facilitate more China-US people-to-people exchanges， and actively contribute to the development of China-U.S. relations.

Susan Mai Easterbrook Cole and Nancy Easterbrook Millward expressed thanks for the warm hospitality and thoughtful arrangement provided by Chongqing and the efforts to preserve the Former Residence of General Stilwell and establish the Chongqing Stilwell Museum. They noted that the development achieved by Chongqing is impressive and admirable. They are greatly touched by the deep friendship of Chinese people to General Stilwell and are honored to contribute their parts in promoting friendship between the Chinese and American people. As family members of General Stilwell， they hope to gain insights from history， improve their understanding of China， strengthen friendship through this visit， and make new contributions to friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and the U.S.
