In Olympic history, there are many moving tales of players who overcame crippling adversity（不幸；災(zāi)難） to win gold medals, but the story of Karoly Takacs may be the best one of them.
Takacs was a member of Hungarys（匈牙利） pistol?鄄shooting（射擊） team, and he did a great deal to help his team win the world champion in the Olympic Games of 1938. After that, unexpectedly, the World War II broke out, and Takacs was forced to join in the army and to fight for his country, as other young men did in those days. In a battle, unfortunately, he got his right hand lost by a grenade（手榴彈） explosion. It was quite usual for a soldier on the war field, while it was disastrous for him, an excellent shooting player.
When people regretted that he would never appear in the shooting contest field, Takacs, however, began teaching himself to shoot with his left hand. After ten years of tough training and fierce practice, he, eventually, won the first two gold medals in rapid-fire（速射）pistol contest, which proves a greatest challenge for the shooting players.
Many people cheered tearfully for him, and, so far, more and more people in the world have also been deeply moved by his story of success.
