By the time John pulled into the little town, every hotel room was taken. “Youve got to have a room somewhere,” he pleaded. “Or just a bed—I dont care where.”
約翰開(kāi)車(chē)來(lái)到這座小鎮(zhèn)時(shí)，旅館已客滿(mǎn)?！翱隙ㄟ€有空房的，” 他懇求道，“或是只要一張床，睡哪里都行。”
“Well, I do have a double room with one occupant,” admitted the manager, “and he might be glad to split the cost. But to tell you the truth, he snores so loudly that people in adjoining rooms have complained in the past. Im not sure itd be worth it to you.”
“好吧，我這兒確實(shí)有個(gè)雙人間，不過(guò)只有一個(gè)住客，” 旅館經(jīng)理答道，“有人分擔(dān)房費(fèi)他會(huì)很高興的。可是實(shí)話(huà)告訴你，他打呼嚕的聲音太大了，住在隔壁的人都抱怨過(guò)。不知你這樣是否劃得來(lái)?！?/p>
“No problem,” the tired traveler assured him. “Ill take it.”
“沒(méi)問(wèn)題，” 旅途勞頓的約翰向他保證道，“就要這間了?！?
The next morning, John came down to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. When asked about how he slept, he replied, “Never better.”
第二天早上，約翰下來(lái)吃早飯，看起來(lái)精神煥發(fā)。當(dāng)問(wèn)及他昨晚睡得怎樣時(shí)，他答道：“從沒(méi)這么好過(guò)?！?
The manager was impressed, “No problem with the other guy snoring, then?”
經(jīng)理頗為驚訝：“這么說(shuō)，跟那個(gè)打呼嚕的人睡在一起什么事都沒(méi)有了？”
“Nope. I shut him up in no time.”
“不是的。只不過(guò)我很快就讓他閉嘴了。”
“Howd you manage that?”
“你是怎么做到的？”
“He was already in bed, snoring away, when I came in the room,” John said. “I went over, gave him a kiss on the cheek and said, ‘Good night, beauty. With that he sat up all night watching me.”
“我進(jìn)去時(shí)他已經(jīng)睡著了，不停地打著呼嚕。” 約翰說(shuō)，“我便走過(guò)去，在他臉上親了一下，說(shuō)了聲‘晚安，美人兒。于是他整晚再?zèng)]睡，一直盯著我?！?
