      Part 1

Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning) (15 Minutes)

      1. What bothered Tiffany during an interview with her candidate?

      A) He just wouldn't look her in the eyes.

      B) He was slow in answering her questions.

      C) His résumé didn't provide the necessary information.

      D) His answers to some of her questions were irrelevant.

      She noticed that the candidate never made direct eye contact. She was puzzled and some what disappointed because she liked the individual otherwise.

關(guān)鍵詞bothered Tiffany,第一題對應段落是第一段,bothered的同義詞是puzzled and disappointed,找出了關(guān)鍵詞后接著看整句話,就可以得出bother的原因了,the candidate never made direct eye contact與答案A所表述的意思相當。

      2. Tiffany's misjudgment about the candidate stemmed from______.

      A) racial stereotype

      B) invalid personal bias

      C) cultural ignorance

      D) emphasis on physical appearance

      'I was just thrown off by the lack of eye contact; not realizing it was cultural,' Tiffany says.

關(guān)鍵詞misjudgment,在文章前幾段搜索Tiffany說過的話,不難發(fā)現(xiàn)第四段中not realizing it was cultural就是要找尋的答案。

      3. What is becoming essential in the course of economic globalization according to the author?

      A) Hiring qualified technical and management personnel.

      B) Increasing understanding of people of other cultures.

      C) Constantly updating knowledge and equipment.

      D) Expanding domestic and international markets.

      'as the world becomes smaller..., It is becoming essential to expand our understanding of others and to reexamine some of our false assumptions.'

關(guān)鍵詞globalization和essential,表明作者意圖的話是第五段essential to expand our understanding of others and to reexamine some of our false assumptions正是本問題的答案,所以本題選B。

      4. What kind of organization is Mindsets LLC?

      A) real estate agency

      B) personnel training company

      C) cultural exchange organization

      D) Hi-tech company

      My company, Mindsets LLC, helps organizations and individuals see their own blind spots.

首先要找到Mindsets LLC,而后看全句,我的公司是幫助機構(gòu)和個人see their own blind spots(找到他們自身的盲點),可以推知答案是B。

      5. After one of the workshops, account executive Dale realized that_______.

      A) he had hired the wrong person

      B) he could have done more for his company

      C) he had not managed his workforce well

      D) he must get rid of his gender bias

      Blind by gender

      'Through..., I discovered my personal bias, '...in his case, the blindness was not about cultural but rather gender.

      6. What did Dale think of Mindsets LLC's workshop?

      A) It was well-intentioned but poorly conducted.

      B) It tapped into the executives' full potential.

      C) It helped him make fair decisions.

      D) It met participants' diverse needs.

      Dale credits the workshop, ' because it helped me make decisions based on fairness.'

從Blind by gender這一段的最后一句話可以推斷出,Dale對整個講習班持贊同態(tài)度:helped me make decisions based on fairness(它幫助我作出更公平的決定),答案是 C。

      7. How did Doug, a supervisor, respond to a Chinese-American employee's request for leave?

      A) He told him to get the date right.

      B) He demands an explanation.

      C) He flatly turned it down.

      D) He readily approved it.

      Year of the Know-It-All

      When I advised him of this, I gave him a long talking to about turning in requests early with the proper dates.

首先找到Doug,不難發(fā)現(xiàn)在Year of the Know-It-All這一段。再找到跟respond相關(guān)的信息,gave him a long talking to后面的動作turning in requests early with the proper dates(在恰當?shù)臅r候上交請求),因此答案是A。

      8. Doug felt ____when he realized that his assumption was wrong.

      'Needless to say, I felt very embarrassed in assuming he had his dates mix up.'

      9. After attending Mindsets' workshop, the participants came to know the importance of____to their business.

      'the biggest thing I took away from the workshop is learning how to be more inclusive in the future.'

      10. When we view people as individuals and get rid of stereotypes, we can achieve diversity and benefit from the ____between us.

      'Once we start to see people as individuals, and discard the stereotypes..., Diversity is about coming together and taking advantage of out differences and similarities.'

答案是differences and similarities。

      James: The chief difference between the CET-4 and higher level exams, such as the TEM-8 or the IELTS or TOEFL, is that the questions aren't designed to be deliberately confusing – they lack the negative statements, ambiguities, and so on that characterize tougher papers. That said, it's still essential to be able to recognize the 'rewording' tactics used to make the questions more than just a simple matter of scanning the reading paper for the right words. For example, take Part II, Question 10. Here the answer is that we can 'benefit from our differences and similarities,' but the original text doesnt say 'benefit' – that would be too easy. Rather, it says 'take advantage of', a phrase with a similar meaning. Learning to spot these similar phrases is key to passing the exam.(Not all questions are this hard! For instance, Part II, Question 8, just requires you to realize that the 'I' in 'I felt embarrassed' is the speaker, Doug – not that difficult to work out!)

      We have to be careful when reading for tense, too. For instance, in Part II, Question 5, a casual reading could make it look as though 'he had hired the wrong person' is the answer – but when we look at the text again, we see it says 'Had I not attended the workshop, I would have assumed …' – in other words, the hiring takes place after he's been to the workshop, not before. (The correct answer is D (he must get rid of his gender bias) – the text says he has to 'stop imposing his gender biases.'

譬如:第二部分第10道題的答案是benefit from our differences and similarities但是原文中并沒有直接說benefit,那樣的話,就太簡單了。

      二、Reading Comprehension (Reading in Depth) 深度閱讀

      Passage One

      The January fashion show, called FutureFashion, exemplified how far green design has come. Organized by the New York-based nonprofit Earth Pledge, the show inspired many top designers to work with sustainable fabrics for the first time. Several have since made pledges to include organic fabrics in their lines.

      The designers who undertake green fashion still face many challenges. Scott Hahn, cofounder with Gredory of Rogan and Loomstate, which uses all-organic cotton, says high-quality sustainable materials can still be tough to find. 'Most designers with existing labels are finding there aren't comparable fabrics that can just replace what you're doing and what your customers are used to,' he says. For example, organic cotton and non-organic cotton are virtually indistinguishable once woven into a dress. But some popular synthetics, like stretch nylon, still have few eco-friendly equivalents.

      Those who do make the switch are finding they have more support. Last year the influential trade show Designers & Agents stopped charging its participation fee for young green entrepreneurs(企業(yè)家) who attend its two springtime shows in Los Angeles and New York and gave special recognition to designers whose collections are at least 25% sustainable. It now counts more than 50 green designers, up from fewer than a dozen two years ago. This week Wal-Mart is set to announce a major initiative aimed at helping cotton farmers go organic: it will buy transitional(過渡型的) cotton at higher prices, thus helping to expand the supply of a key sustainable material. 'Mainstream is about to occur,' says Hahn.

      Some analysts(分析師) are less sure. Among consumers, only 18% are even aware that ecofashion exits, up from 6% four years ago. Natalie Hormilla, a fashion writer, is an example of the unconverted consumer. When asked if she owned any sustainable clothes, she replied: 'Not that I'm aware of.' Like most consumers, she finds little time to shop, and when she does, she's on the hunt for 'cute stuff that isn't too expensive.' by her own admission, green just isn't yet on her mind. But-thanks to the combined efforts of designers, retailers and suppliers - one day it will be.

      57. What is said about the FutureFashion?

      A) It inspired many leading designers to start going green.

      B) It showed the designers using organic fabrics would go far.

      C) It served as an example of how fashion shoes should be organized.

      D) It convinced the public that fashionable clothes should be made durable.

      58. According to Scott Hahn, one big challenge to designers who will go organic is that ______.

      A) much more time is needed to finish a dress using sustainable materials

      B) they have to create new brands for clothes made of organic materials

      C) customers have difficulty telling organic from non-organic materials

      D) quality organic replacements for synthetics are not readily available

Most designers with existing labels are finding there aren't comparable fabrics that can just replace what you're doing and what your customers are used to,從這一句我們就可以很好地推斷出答案為D。

      59. We learn from Paragraph 3 that designers who undertake green fashion_________.

      A) can attend various trade shows free

      B) are readily recognized by the fashion world

      C) can buy organic cotton at favorable prices

      D) are gaining more and more support

Those who do make the switch are finding they have more support(他們獲得了越來越多人的支持),所以應該選D。

      60. What is Natalie Hormilla's attitude toward ecofashion?

      A) She doesn't seem to care about it.

      B) She doesn't think it is sustainable.

      C) She is doubtful of its practical value.

      D) She is very much opposed to the idea.

Not that I'm aware of(我并沒有意識到這些)。

      61. What does the author think of green fashion?

      A) Green products will soon go mainstream.

      B) It has a very promising future.

      C) Consumers have the final say.

      D) It will appeal more to young people.

      James: We can see some of the same rewording techniques used in Part B. For instance, the text states 'leading designers,' but the answer requires you to recognize this as the same as 'top designers.' Sometimes, however, recognizing the answer needs a fuller understanding of the whole context of the passage. For instance, question 59 points you to paragraph 3, but to realize that the 'designers who undertake green fashion' it's talking about are 'those who made the switch,' as the text says, you need to have understood the previous paragraph. Part B also requires more deductive reasoning on the part of the reader.

      Part 3

      BT: Hello, James, What do you think of the CET-4 exam? What level is it equivalent to in British exams?

      James: As a language exam? It's about equivalent to A-Level.

      BT: What does A-level mean?

      James: A(dvanced) Level, you take them at 18.

      BT: And according to the reading comprehension you have done, what kind of ability does the test try to see about for the students?

      James: It's looking for a wide vocabulary and the ability to comprehend moderately complex texts

      BT: In your opinion, is this kind of exam practical in the daily use?

      James: It's a reasonably good test of reading ability, yes, and it represents the kind of articles and information that somebody in an English-speaking job or academic course would have to process.

      BT: What's the form of language exam in the UK when you were in middle school?

      James: We don't have middle school, only primary and secondary, and we don't take language exams until we're 16, at GCSE. Those are relatively easy basic ability exams.

      訓練方式:早上閱讀、背單詞、做真題等等。聽VOA、BBC新聞,慢速全部聽寫下來,快速地做填空。

      擅長:快速閱讀,首先看問題,再到文章里找答案,難度還好,在作文和快速閱讀之間合理分配時間。

      心態(tài):輕松,應該能過,老師要求比較高,有點小壓力噢!

      考后感受:

      ☆考試的時候時間上感覺比較緊,寫字都有點抖;

      ☆發(fā)揮最好的是閱讀理解,做得很細,花的時間特別多;

      ☆快速閱讀的時候,練習的題型是04和05年的,題型不同,比較吃虧。

      考試經(jīng)驗:

      ☆做題時不能老看手表,造成心里緊張;

      ☆訓練的時候多看題目,要盡可能熟悉題型;

      ☆王長喜的資料提供的方法比較有效。

      中央財經(jīng)大學07級金融學院 彭霜

      考前采訪:

      薄弱:完形填空,比較不擅長語法,所以在做題的時候會把握不足,所以完形填空比較弱。

      擅長:聽力和快速閱讀。聽多了,做多了就熟練了,以前參加過雅思的培訓和考試,聽習慣了快的聽力,做習慣了長篇的文章,做稍微慢點和短一點的四級題目,相對來說就會容易很多。平時練習也有剩余時間。

      心態(tài):比較平和。

      考后感受:

      ☆難易程度還好,時間太緊了,答案還沒填到答題卡上的時候,就只剩十分鐘時間了,完型都還沒做;

      ☆閱讀做得不錯,花的時間比較多;

      ☆閱讀section B短文閱讀做的不是很順。

      考試經(jīng)驗:

      ☆多做真題,多看報紙和閱讀雜志。長期不懈的堅持聽寫和閱讀才是王道。

      中央財經(jīng)大學07級財政學 郭磊

      考前采訪:

      薄弱:閱讀,因為經(jīng)常會在二選一里邊出問題,無法抉擇。

      聽力:做真題。

      擅長:完形填空,詞匯出現(xiàn)的比較簡單,不要想太多。

      考后感受:

      ☆考試時間緊,聽力結(jié)束的時候只剩四十分鐘,三篇閱讀,翻譯還有完型沒做完,挺緊張;

      ☆聽力的最后一部分發(fā)揮得比較好;

      ☆比較擅長的完形填空時間不夠。

      考試經(jīng)驗:

      ☆看真題的時間花的比較多,多看雜志和報紙,練習做題速度才是王道。

      中央財經(jīng)大學07級國際金融 尹劼

      考前采訪:

      薄弱:聽力,語言環(huán)境,平常交流不說英語,做聽力的時候有時間差,包括發(fā)音各方面的理解,有一個反應時間,有時候提不上來。有時候反應過來,就過了。

      訓練方式:上課,聽VOA或者BBC相關(guān)的新聞,常速的,平常上課的全英的方式有助于閱讀。

      擅長:深度閱讀,有較強的應試技巧,如排除法,關(guān)鍵詞法。

      考后感受:

      ☆聽力特別不太清楚,比預想的要難很多;

      ☆閱讀,快速閱讀做的挺好的,對題型很熟悉。

      考試經(jīng)驗:

      ☆比較喜歡看文章,做題思路比較正確;

      ☆擺好對完型的心態(tài),不要太患得患失;

      ☆看《雙語時代》Gas Station里的一些環(huán)節(jié),一些單詞,都是比較地道的英文,對我的閱讀理解和聽力幫助非常大;

      ☆考前準備一些作文模板,闡述現(xiàn)象,分析原因哪,比如說三段論等等;

      ☆做聽力時可以相時而動,翻一下試卷提前看一下題目。是先看section B的小短文,因為那個部分會比較難一點,而8個短對話中間都會有10秒的停頓時間,用那個時間來看看它的題目內(nèi)容,這樣的話,做聽力就不會那么手忙腳亂了。

      小編總結(jié):整體來說,四位考生發(fā)揮得都還不錯。但還是有一些狀況與他們實際預估的有出入。第一是時間。有三位同學都說做題時間特別緊。第二是平時擅長的部分在考試的時候沒有發(fā)揮得特別理想。冉春同學的快速閱讀(訓練時題型沒把握準確),郭磊同學的完形填空(沒時間)。第三就是做題速度與準確度的把握,這些方面都有待提升。

      Part 4 四級考試攻略黃金法則

      語言類的學科是積累的過程,不可能是一蹴而就的。大學順利過四級,拿高分絕對是厚積薄發(fā)的結(jié)果。針對種種狀況,本編輯部特別提煉了在四級考試中攻克聽力、閱讀和寫作的黃金法則,如果能堅持應用,過四級絕對是a piece of cake(小菜一碟)。

      一、聽力攻略黃金法則

      有人說,“得聽力者得天下?!甭犃Φ闹匾圆谎远?今年6月四級聽力的長對話和3篇短文理解,其難度相當于小型的閱讀理解。聽力短期內(nèi)很難突破,要想提高必須堅持長期練習:

      1. 專心致志,閉關(guān)學習

      習武高手之所以要“閉關(guān)”,是要排除外界的一切干擾,英語聽力也需要這種狀態(tài)。

      Think in English 用英語想英語

      看美劇或大片,不放字幕,觀看時采用聽力英文思維配合畫面猜想的方式來理解劇集;

      堅持聽寫VOA special English, BBC, 你的英文思維能力、反應能力和口語會得到質(zhì)的提升。

      Imitate 多模仿多朗讀多背誦

      模仿是成功的鑰匙,聽寫優(yōu)美文章,模仿語音,背誦,一切都會水到渠成。

      2. 多進行精聽練習,聽懂才是真諦

      準備四級聽力,要精聽,不要泛聽。精聽的具體步驟:中國國際廣播電臺CRI或美國之音VOA或英國廣播公司BBC每個小時開始的英語新聞,大約有20條,每條時間不超過1分鐘,詞匯量不超過200,您可以將某條新聞錄制下來,然后反復聽寫。

      同時,精聽歷年四級考題,迅速地熟悉考題。考前1到2個月要堅持每天聽30分鐘左右。

      《雙語時代》小帖士:

      雙語時代網(wǎng)站有個廣播學英語的板塊,大家多到網(wǎng)站上停留就會有收獲,另外隨刊的同步聽力節(jié)目一定要反復收聽,不愿意下載的也可以到網(wǎng)站的“天天學英語”頻道中在線收聽。

      二、閱讀理解攻略黃金法則

      快速閱讀部分采用1-2篇較長的文章或多篇短文,總長度約為1000個單詞。所占分值比例為10%,建議考試時間為15分鐘。

      深度閱讀理解部分包括選詞填空和短文閱讀理解,測試學生通過閱讀獲取書面信息的能力。所占分值比例為25%,建議考試時間為25分鐘??偣卜秩恼?。

      1. 沒有捷徑,只有功夫,提升基本技能

      擴大詞匯量

      大量的閱讀可以豐富你的詞匯。重視英語詞匯和習慣用法的積累。你在單位單詞上停留的時間越少,對整個句子,乃至文段的把握就更好。

      提高做題速度

      閱讀速度的提高在根本上是個潛移默化的過程,通過大量的閱讀使閱讀速度有質(zhì)的提高。

      2. 心領(lǐng)神會,巧用真題

      力爭把真題里的句子、單詞都弄明白,并且對其中的難句做一定的分析,特別是語法結(jié)構(gòu)。

      3. 心無旁騖,全神貫注,高分速成

      看文章時要撇開私心雜念,做到心無旁騖,一口氣看完,更不要默念。

      掌握英語文章的行文規(guī)律,閱讀時著重抓住各段中心句(一般出現(xiàn)在段首)。一般來講,題干中的關(guān)鍵詞包括:人名、地名、年代、專有名詞等等。

      高分速成五項法則:一、先看題干,帶著問題讀文章;二、速讀全文,了解大意知主題;三、詳讀細節(jié),理順思路與文章脈絡;四、邏輯推理,做好深層理解題;五、猜詞悟義,掃除閱讀攔路虎。

      《雙語時代》小帖士:

      雜志每期的單詞量大約為2-3萬,訂閱一年的話,一年中可接觸的英文單詞大約為30萬左右,足夠應對四六級考試,但有個要求就是“認真”二字。當然,為了更好的幫助大家提高對雜志內(nèi)容的“認真”,沒有相應的機制也不行,我們將很快在網(wǎng)站上設(shè)立對應的模擬考試。這樣讀者就不光看看而已了,真正讓讀者學有所獲。大家可以關(guān)注一下我們即將上線的“魔鬼課堂”和“玩轉(zhuǎn)英語”頻道。

      三、寫作攻略黃金法則

      對于四級作文,可以做到短時期內(nèi)的“速成”。因考試的作文結(jié)構(gòu)框架是恒定的,內(nèi)容是可預見的,于是快速搭建起一個滿足考試要求的段落結(jié)構(gòu)并填塞相應內(nèi)容,是可以實現(xiàn)的。

      1. 背誦

      讀書破萬卷,下筆如有神。但建議在背的同時,摘抄精彩句,并學會舉一反三。

      2. 框架速成

      四級作文一般固定為三段,每段基本上是對提綱的回答,并在段與段間添加適當?shù)某薪釉~,即可形成一篇三段文。

      Structure結(jié)構(gòu)三要素

      每篇文章必須包括引言、發(fā)展及結(jié)論三個部分(即引出問題、分析問題、解決問題);

      邏輯緊密、層次清楚

      不一定要用到大量的長難句和綱外詞匯,但偶爾一些新穎的句式或較難但使用準確的亮點詞匯會給文章增色不少;

      保持試卷整潔

      答題時,一定要保持卷面整潔,給閱卷老師一個良好的印象分。

      3. 黃金技巧和模板

      Rule 1:思考文章主旨,(WHY, WHEN, WHERE, WHO, WHAT, HOW)

      Rule 2:列出要點

      Rule 3:擴充要點、獨自成段

      Rule 4: 適當使用連接詞

      Rule 5:檢查拼字或文法的錯誤

      Rule 6:首行要縮排

      Rule 7:動詞時態(tài)不能錯

      Rule 8:善用短語

      連接詞,連接兩個子句:

      and(和), but(但是), so(所以), when(當), because(因為), after(在……以后), before(在……以前), since(自從), although(雖然), unless(除非),until(直到…… )

      副詞,常放句首,引導一個子句:

      Now(現(xiàn)在), usually(經(jīng)常), sometimes(有時), occasionally(偶爾), first(首先), next(其次), then(然后), later(后來), finally(最后), eventually(終于), afterwards(以后), however(然而), furthermore(此外), moreover(此外), generally(一般地), suddenly(突然), fortunately(幸運地),unfortunately(不幸地……)

      副詞詞組,放句首,引導一個子句:

      first of all(首先), at first(起先), at the beginning(一開始), later on(后來), just then(那時), at that moment(那時), at the finish(最后), in the end(最后), after that(之后), after a while(過一會兒), to tell the truth(老實說), frankly speaking(坦白說), generally speaking(一般而言), in general(一般而言), in addition(此外), what is more(此外), on the whole(大體上), on my way to…(在前往……的路上), all of a sudden(突然), all at once(立刻), as far as I am concerned(就我來說……)

      4. 萬能模版

      Nowadays, there are more and more (某種現(xiàn)象)in(某種場合).It is estimated that(相關(guān)數(shù)據(jù)).Why have there been so many [某種現(xiàn)象]? Maybe the reasons can be listed as follows. The first one is(原因一). Besides, (原因二). The third one is(原因三). To sum up, the main cause of (某種現(xiàn)象)is due to(最主要原因). It is high time that something were done upon it. For one thing, (解決辦法一). On the other hand,(解決辦法二). All these measures will certainly reduce the number of (某種現(xiàn)象)

      我們早已經(jīng)在雜志上設(shè)立了相關(guān)的欄目,比如《翻譯擂臺》和《舞文弄墨》,大家可以積極參加,點評人還是我們的外籍編輯。相信對大家的翻譯和寫作非常有幫助。
