誤譯：The whole society should pay attention to and show concern for the weak group.

正譯：The whole society should pay attention to and show concern for the disadvantaged group.

解釋：雖然 the weak 作為集合名詞具有people who are poor, sick or without power的意思，即“窮人”、“病人”或“沒有權力的人”，但是它涵蓋不了“弱勢群體”的“在政治、經(jīng)濟、文化以及生理健康等方面處于弱勢地位的人群的概念”?！叭鮿萑后w”，英語可以譯為disadvantaged group，socially vulnerable group 或vulnerable group。例如：

1. 弱勢群體包括流浪兒、殘疾人、下崗工人、貧困山區(qū)婦女和孤寡老人等。The disadvantaged group includes waifs, handicapped people, laid-off workers, women in poverty-stricken mountainous areas, lone old people and widowed old people.

“群體”的第一個意思是“由許多在生理上發(fā)生聯(lián)系的同種生物個體組成的整體，如動物中的海綿、珊瑚和植物中的某些藻類”。英語可以譯為 colony。例如：

2. 這位研究人員說他不知道這種病毒是否會導致一個群體崩潰。The researcher says that he does not know if this virus may cause a colony to collapse.

“群體”的第二個意思是泛指“由許多本質(zhì)上有共同點的互相聯(lián)系的個體組成的整體”，與“個體”是相對的。英語可以譯為 group。例如：

3. 近年來，我們的城市出現(xiàn)了許多寫字樓、購物中心、大型超市、展覽館、體育館和住宅小區(qū)等建筑群體。In recent years, there have appeared many groups of construction like office buildings, shopping malls, large supermarkets, exhibition halls, gymnasiums and residential areas in our city.

“群體”的第三個意思是“群眾”或“民眾”。英語可以譯為 mass。例如：

4. 根據(jù)這位外國記者的理解，群體事件是漢語對大型抗議、騷亂、示威或群眾請愿的委婉語。To the mind of the foreign reporter, mass incident is a Chinese euphemism for a large protest, riot, demonstration, or mass petition.▲
