      Analysis of the Impacts of the Negative Transfer of the Mother Language in English Writing in Junior Middle School

      Abstract:Because of the differences between Chinese and English culture, many English learners always try to use Chinese language rules in writing English expressions,and thus result in the errors,which we call Chinglish.This paper firstly analyzes errors and probes into the possible reasons which result in the errors,and brings out some solutions related to the errors.

      I.Introduction

      In the foreign language learning process,the established native language system will surely impact the new language system.Based on the theory of language transfer,negative transfer of mother tongue on English writing impact is mainly manifested in words form and tense,vocabulary,sentence structure and textual analysis.This article will analyze one by one.

      II.The Errors Resulting from the Negative Transfer of the Mother Language

      II.1Vocabulary

      Firstly,the improper collocation has been widely exists in English writing.When we refer to”the population of China is very big”,learners tend to translate,China has much “population.”When they think of the word “more”,they will think of “things”,but they ignore the word "population"should be decorated by “big”.Secondly,learners cannot correctly grasp the words speech when we expression the meaning of “in our society”,they usually mistake the meaning of “social”,which result into the expression of“in our social”.Thirdly,learners always take the words too literally,such as“He is the last man I want to see”to express that I do not want to see him very much,but they usually understand that I want to see him very much.

      II.2The Aspect of the Syntactic

      Firstly,Chinese focus on the theme and the sentences and connected by the meaning of words and the collocation of the words,and they are usually tech-based.There is no clear SVO sentence element.Secondly,before the Chinese learners reach a certain level of English,they often migrate the mother tongue sentence into the English sentence,resulting in negative sentences migration.Thirdly,in English writing,the Chinese learners will translate the sentence words by words in accordance with the Chinese word order row.Lastly,English has tense,while there is no temporal change in Chinese,which brings much trouble to our students.

      II.3Textual Analysis

      There are differences in values and ways of thinking,so its discourse structure will differ from culture to culture.The Chinese peoples way of thinking is a spiral.Thus,learners lack of the understanding of English discourse structure,so they will often apply speaking chapter organization to the English article writing.

      III.Suggestions to Avoid These Errors

      According to the types of the errors,the researchers have concluded some ways to avoid these errors.Firstly,we should have contrast teaching between English and Chinese.Negative transfer of mother tongue is generated by the differences between English and Chinese.So contrast teaching can help teachers predict the focus and difficulties in learners learning,and then the teachers can take appropriate measures in teaching methods in order to improve the quality of English teaching.Secondly,we should strengthen the teaching of the significance of vocabulary collocation.Though vocabulary teaching has some difficulties for our teachers,but teachers can effectively guide vocabulary teaching through understanding of lexical meaning and classification in order to improve the“l(fā)earners”ability to apply vocabulary.To explain collocations relationship,our teacher should compare the collocations and give examples.Thirdly,we should change the “l(fā)earners”wrong concept of vocabulary learning.Lastly,we should cultivate learners of language sense by asking them to read the text and other books even reciting some paragraphs.

      IV.Conclusion

      Chinese as our mother tongue or cross-cultural communication means has a profound impact on Chinese learners regardless of the mode of thinking.It can not be completely divorced from the Chinese thinking and English thinking in English writing.English learners should be widely read,and actively accumulate a variety of applications knowledge of the English.Learners should overcome the Chinese mode of thinking and expression habits to overcome negative transfer of the mother tongue in order to write authentic English articles.
