一、case為名詞

case作名詞，主要表示：

1.情況，情形，狀況。

Take my case for an example.以我的情況為例。

What can I do in such a case？在這種情形下我能做什么呢？

in good/evil case（在健康、處境等方面）狀況良好/不好的。

2.真相，實情，事實（通常用the case）。

That’s not the case.事情真相并非如此。

Is it the case that he has lost all his money？他的錢全部沒了，真有其事嗎？

3.事例，實例。

a typical case典型的例子。

He is an obvious case of somebody whose parents have helped him too much.孩子受到父母親過多呵護的結果，他就是一個活生生的例子。

4.病例，癥狀，病人。

I’ve got five cases of typhoid here.我這里有五個傷寒病例。

The doctor explained her case to her family.醫(yī)生向她家人解釋了她的癥狀。

an emergency case急癥病例。

5.案件，訴訟案件；判例。

The case will be tried next week.這個案件下周審訊。

The judge in this case is very fair.這樁訴訟案的法官很公正。

a civil/criminal case民事/刑事案件。

6.論據(jù)，論辯。

They have a good case against him.他們有反駁他的好論據(jù)。

He has no case.他無話可辯。

7.[sing]（informal）怪人。

He really is a case.他真是個怪人。

8.[語法]格（名詞、代詞的詞形變化）

the nominative case主格；the objective case 賓格。

二、case為名詞

case作名詞的，還可以表示盒、箱、套子、容器等。

She put the necklace into her jewel case.她把項鏈放進珠寶盒里。

briefcase公文包；bookcase書櫥，書架；suitcase手提箱。

四、in case的用法

1.以防萬一，以備，免得。

Take warm clothes in case the weather is cold.帶些暖和衣服，以防天氣變冷。

It may rain， please bring your raincoat in case.天可能下雨，請帶上雨衣以防萬一。

Take a taxi in case you are late for the meeting.坐出租車去，免得開會遲到。

2.如果，萬一，假使（美國人這樣用時較多）。

In case anything important happens， please call me up.萬一發(fā)生什么重要事情，請打電話給我。

In case he comes， please let me know.如果他來的話，請告訴我一聲。

3.還可用于in case of（后面跟名詞），假使……，萬一……，如果發(fā)生……

I keep an umbrella here in case of rain.我在這里放一把雨傘以防下雨。

In case of fire， call 119.倘若有火災，就打119電話。

4.此外，可以用于in that （which） case，表示“如果那樣”。

In that case， I have no more to say.如果那樣我就沒有什么可說了。

My father may have to go into hospital， in which case I won’t be going on holiday.

我父親可能要住院，如果那樣我就不去度假了。
