加拿大駐華大使麥卡勒姆履新后高校首訪來到川外

3月24日,在市政府外事僑務(wù)辦的協(xié)助安排下,加拿大新任駐華大使麥卡勒姆一行訪問了四川外國語大學(xué)(以下簡稱“川外”)。這是麥卡勒姆大使履新后首次訪問中國西南地區(qū),川外也是他來華任職后訪問的第一所大學(xué)。麥卡勒姆大使夫人、加拿大駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館總領(lǐng)事歐陽飛,市政府外事僑務(wù)辦副主任唐文及領(lǐng)事處負責人等陪同訪問。川外校長李克勇、副校長祝朝偉等熱情接待了來賓。
李克勇首先對麥卡勒姆大使一行表示熱烈歡迎,并介紹了川外的教學(xué)科研情況,回顧了該校與加拿大高校之間的合作交流。李克勇說,川外是中國加拿大研究的發(fā)源地,《加拿大百科全書》及有關(guān)魁北克研究的重要論著都出自川外的專家學(xué)者,并將其主編的法文版《中華文化概覽》作為禮物贈送給麥卡勒姆。麥卡勒姆對李克勇的介紹非常感興趣,還給予了高度評價,他表示今后將繼續(xù)支持加拿大高校與川外的交流與合作。
會見完畢,麥卡勒姆大使一行在川外校領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的陪同下,參觀了該校加拿大研究中心,中心負責人向大使介紹了其發(fā)展歷程及研究成果。隨后,麥卡勒姆大使與該校加拿大研究中心、英語學(xué)院、國際關(guān)系學(xué)院及法語系師生代表進行了短暫交流。他表示加拿大對中國西南地區(qū)十分重視,他將加強加拿大與重慶在教育、旅游、金融貿(mào)易、智能制造等多方面的合作,歡迎更多年輕人選擇赴加拿大求學(xué)。

On March 24, Mr.John McCallum, ambassador of Canada to China, and his party made a visit to Sichuan International Studies University (hereinafter referred to as SISU) under the assistance and arrangement of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.This was his first visit to southwest China, and SISU became the first university he visited after he took office in China.Mr.John McCallum was accompanied by his wife, Mr.Philippe Rheault (Consul General of the Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing), Tang Wen (Deputy Director General of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government), leading officials of Consular Section and so on.They were given a warm reception by Li Keyong (Principal of SISU) and Zhu Chaowei (Vice Principal of SISU).
Li Keyong firstly expressed a warm welcome to Mr.McCallum and his party, introduced the teaching and research situation of SISU and reviewed the cooperation and communication between SISU and the universities and colleges in Canada.Li Keyong said that SISU is the birthplace of Canadian studies in China for The Canadian Encyclopedia and some important works about the research of Quebec are all made by experts and scholars of SISU.The French version of A Panorama of Chinese Culture, edited by Li, was given as a present to Mr.McCallum.Being interested in Li’s introduction, Mr.McCallum gave a high evaluation that the future communication and cooperation between SISU and the universities and colleges in Canada should continue to be supported.
After the meeting, accompanied by school leaders of SISU, Mr.McCallum and his party visited the Canadian Research Center in SISU where the center’s principal introduced its development history and research results to the ambassador.Later, Mr.McCallum made a brief exchange with the teachers and students of the Canadian Research Center, College of English Language and Literature, School of International Relations and Department of French.He said, as Canada attaches great importance to the southwest China, he would strengthen the cooperation with Chongqing in education, tourist, finance and trade and intelligent manufacturing.More young people are welcome to study in Canada.
