It was a1)stormy night. A traveler reached an2)inn. It was very late. He found the door locked from within. He knocked at the door.

The gatekeeper came, saying, “I have lost the key and the door cannot be opened, unless you have a silver key with you.”

The traveler understood what he meant by the silver key. He immediately3)slippeda silver coin through the hole,and the door opened.

As soon as he got in, he said to the gatekeeper, “I have left my box outside,please bring it.” As the gatekeeper went out to bring the box, the traveler closed the door behind him.

The keeper asked him to open the door so that he may come in. Now the traveler replied from within, “I have lost the key and a silver key is needed to open the door.” Soon, the coin was pushed again through the hole and the4)dishonestman was let in.

The sun shone down for nearly a week on the secret garden. The Secret Garden was what Mary called it when she was thinking of it. The few books she had read and liked had been fairy-story books, and she had read of secret gardens in some of the stories. Sometimes people went to sleep in them for a hundred years, which she had thought must be rather stupid. She had no2)intentionof going to sleep, and, in fact, she was becoming wider-awake with every day that passed atMisselthwaite注.

She was beginning to like to be out of doors; she no longer hated the wind, but enjoyed it. She could run faster, and longer, and she could3)skip up to a hundred.
