      On the Contradiction between the Dilution of English Grammar Teaching and English Testing

      【Abstract】Withthe implementation of quality education, the new curriculum standards explicitly state. In order to improve their application of language and encourage the learning style of experience, practice, participation, cooperation, and communication,some teachers begin to think that English grammar is useless and ignore grammar teaching, so the dilution of English grammar teaching is presented. Although in the English test, many questions seem not to be related with grammar directly, the understanding of any English sentence cannot be fully get without proper in English grammar. Without English grammar skills, it is difficult to get excellent grades in the exam. This article analyzes the reasons and discusses how to solve this problem.

      I.The Reason for the Dilution of Grammar

      1.1 English Course Standards

      Language is not only a tool for communication and thinking, but also a culture. English language learning should attach importance to the cultivation of cultural literacy and intercultural communicative competence. The English course is not only for students to learn knowledge, but to cultivate their sentiments further. It is used to cultivate sentiment, which leads to changes in teaching methods and ideology, and changes in the learning style of students learning. This is the root cause of grammatical desalination.

      1.2 Single Course Format

      In terms of the content and form of the class, the teaching methods are indeed colorful, but it is not difficult to see that the single form of the curriculum is ubiquitous, especially in open classes. They simply believe that such classes are scientific, accurate, and advanced. They think that grammar lessons are boring and backward, and should be eliminated. The single course form is the catalyst that leads to the dilution of the grammar.

      1.3 Teachers Teaching Methods

      In order to accord with the teaching requirements of the new curriculum, teachers teaching methods have also changed. Most teachers begin to think that grammar is tedious and useless, and the learning process is also boring, and it has little effect on improving students oral communication ability. The teacher as a guide impacts on students thinking styles, leading to changes in their learning content. Therefore, the teachers teaching method is the dominant factor in grammatical desalination.

      II The Development and Content of English Test

      Looking back the development track of the English exam in China, the content of investigations is different in different places and stages, it is not difficult to find that the contents of the English subject test and the reform of the question types in the College Entrance Examinations in our country have probably gone through four stages. If there is no knowledge, students can not innovate and get high scores that show the importance of grammar knowledge in examinations.

      III. The Solution to Solve the Contradictions

      3.1 Correct Understanding of the Desalination of Grammar

      Many teachers misunderstand this meaning, the desalination of grammar teaching is not equal to the complete absence of grammar. English grammar teaching should focus on the application of language and apply the learned grammar rules to the communication in our real life. Learning English grammar is the prerequisite for improving the English level. The basic requirement of the new curriculum reform for English teaching is to achieve an all-round development of the English level.

      3.2 Course Reform in the Teaching Process

      There are two extremes in the English course all the time. Frist, the entertainment is too high in the classroom, there is no knowledge teaching, and second is the teachers rigid knowledge. The communicative approach is the mainstream since new textbooks are used. It is very important to use the communicative teaching method to combine experience, practice, participation, cooperation and knowledge teaching. Some methods are encouraged students to study actively and improve their interests and achievements.

      3.3 Changes in Subjective Goals of Students

      The best way is to analyze the problem calmly and find out the solution to the difficulties. When you cant learn the method, the result will be bad, but you cannot be discouraged, you should sum up the experience, otherwise the results will make you become worse and worse, which is a great test of students psychological quality. The second is not only to learn but also have a good way to learn.

      IV Conclusio

      The contradiction between the dilution of English grammar teaching and English testing has always plagued students. The main reason is learning or not learning. The idea of diluting grammar is to change the original indoctrination style of grammar teaching and adopt a variety of teaching methods to allow students to learn grammar in joy, improve students practical application ability, and develop in an integrated direction, not just for exams. Teachers should abandon the erroneous notion that grammar is not important, foreigners never speak grammar. In addition to cooperation of teacher, students should pay more attention to the overall development of their own.Grammar is an integral part of English. Only by learning a good grammar, you can get a high score in the exam and speak English fluently and improve English ability.
