You have a vocabulary list a mile long and are wondering how to learn the words， right？ Making and using flash cards is always an easy way to get some of those vocabulary words stuck inside your head. And there is my way to make a flash card.

MATERIALS

◆ Index1 cards ◆ A dictionary

◆ A hole puncher2 ◆ A pencil

◆ Highlighters3—at least four different colors

◆ A key ring， ribbon4， or rubber band5

◆ A list of vocabulary words you have to know

THE FRONT OF THE FLASH CARD

Write a vocabulary word， and only the word， neatly on the front of a card in pencil. Center the word both horizontally6 and vertically7， and be sure to keep the front of the card free from extra markings. Why？ Youll see why in a minute.

THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE BACK

On the reverse side， the information side of the flash card， write a definition for the word in the upper left-hand corner. Make sure you write the definition in your own words. This is absolutely key. If you write a dictionary definition， you will be less likely to remember what the word means！

THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF THE BACK

Write the part of speech （noun， verb， adjective， adverb， etc.） in the upper right corner of the back. Make sure you understand what the part of speech means before writing it down.

Then， color-code it. Highlight that particular part of speech with one color. For example， make all the nouns yellow， all the verbs blue， etc. Your mind remembers colors really well， so youll start to associate color with the part of speech， and youll have an easier time remembering how the word functions in a sentence.

THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE BACK

Use the vocabulary word in a sentence you will remember. Make the sentence impressive， hilarious8， or creative in some other way. If you write a boring sentence， your chances of remembering what the word means go way down.

THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF THE BACK

Draw a small picture or graphic9 to go with the vocabulary word. It doesnt have to be artistic—just something that reminds you of the definition.

Why？ You remember pictures much better than words， which is the reason you cant write anything on the front of the card besides the vocabulary word.

PUNCH10 A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIGHT SIDES

Create a new card for every word you need. The entire process helps you remember the word， too.

Once youve created a card for every word， punch a hole in the middle of the right side of each card and then hook11 all the cards together with the key ring， ribbon or rubber band.

◇單詞抽認(rèn)卡的正面

寫上一個(gè)詞匯表中的單詞，只把單詞用鉛筆整齊地寫在一張卡片上。單詞在卡片正面水平和垂直方向居中。一定要保持卡片正面沒(méi)有任何額外的標(biāo)記。為什么呢？你馬上就會(huì)明白原因了。

◇單詞抽認(rèn)卡背面的左上角

背面是單詞抽認(rèn)卡的信息面，在背面左上角寫下該單詞的意思。一定要用自己的話寫。這絕對(duì)是關(guān)鍵。如果你寫的是字典上的定義，你就不太可能記住這個(gè)單詞的意思了！

◇單詞抽認(rèn)卡背面的右上角

在背面右上角寫下詞性（名詞、動(dòng)詞、形容詞、副詞等）。在寫下來(lái)之前，一定要弄清楚詞性的意義。

然后，用不同顏色做標(biāo)記。用一種顏色突出特定的一種詞性。比如，把所有的名詞都標(biāo)記成黃色，把所有的動(dòng)詞都標(biāo)記成藍(lán)色等。大腦能記牢顏色，所以你會(huì)開(kāi)始把顏色和詞性聯(lián)系起來(lái)，這樣你就更容易記住單詞在句子中的作用。

在你能記得住的句子中使用詞匯表中的單詞。句子要讓人印象深刻，要有趣，或從某種程度上要有創(chuàng)造性。如果你寫上一個(gè)令人乏味的句子，你記住這個(gè)詞的意思的幾率就降低了。

◇單詞抽認(rèn)卡背面的右下角

畫一張與這個(gè)單詞相配的畫或圖形，不一定要畫得精美——只是畫個(gè)為了提醒你這個(gè)單詞的意思的東西。

為什么這樣做呢？圖片比單詞更好記，這就是為什么你不能在卡片的正面寫上除了單詞以外的任何東西的原因。

◇在卡片右邊的中間打一個(gè)洞

為你需要的每個(gè)單詞制作一張新的卡片。整個(gè)制作過(guò)程也有助于你記憶單詞。

在你為每個(gè)單詞制作了一張卡片之后，在每個(gè)卡片的右邊中間打一個(gè)洞，然后用鑰匙圈、緞帶或橡皮筋把所有的卡片穿在一起。
