The independent system of wood engraving has been established both in the East and the West. Wood engraving in China today apparently originates from the Chinese traditions in the past thousands of years， and the woodcut campaign began in modern times.

木刻版畫(huà)，在東方和西方均自成體系。中國(guó)今天所指的木刻版畫(huà)，明顯地發(fā)源于兩個(gè)系統(tǒng)：一個(gè)即千百年來(lái)的中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)；另一個(gè)則肇始于近代的新興木刻運(yùn)動(dòng)。
