1. throw down the gauntlet/glove挑戰(zhàn)。在中世紀(jì)的歐洲,gauntlet是騎士戴的用皮革和金屬片制作的鐵手套。騎士向別人挑戰(zhàn)時(shí)就摘下手套仍在地上,如果對(duì)方接受挑戰(zhàn)就從地上撿起手套。后來人們用glove代替gauntlet。pick up the gauntlet/glove就是“迎戰(zhàn);接受挑戰(zhàn)”之意。

11.pass the hat幫別人解困,相當(dāng)于help out。
