1. due adj. 預期;預定;預計

后引出預期的時間、地點等。

Her baby is due next month. 她的寶寶預計在下個月出生。

【拓展】

be due to do sth. 意為“預期做某事”。

The meeting is due to start at 3：30. 會議預定3：30開始。

2. towards prep. 朝;向;對著

They were heading towards the German border. 他們正前往德國邊界。

【辨析】 towards， to

towards只表示“向著某個方向”，沒有“到達”之意。

She walked towards the river. 她朝著那條河走去。

to常跟在動詞go， come， return， move等之后，表示“向，往”，有“到達”之意。

He moved to Beijing last year. 去年他搬到了北京。

3. abroad adv. 在國外;到國外

at home and abroad 在國內(nèi)外;go abroad 出國

We heard that he went abroad recently. 我們聽說他最近出國了。

【注意】

abroad不能與in， to， at等介詞連用，其前也不加冠詞，但可與介詞from連用。

4. success n. 成功

Whats the secret of your success？ 你成功的秘訣是什么？

success還可用作可數(shù)名詞，意為“成功的人或事”。

The film was a great success. 那部電影大獲成功。

5. hurry v. 匆忙，趕快

He is hurrying to school. 他正急急忙忙朝學校趕去。

hurry up趕快，急忙（做某事）

Hurry up， or you will be late. 快點，否則你會遲到的。

hurry off / away匆匆離去

Miss Zhao hurried off to look after the man. 趙老師匆匆趕去照看那個人。

hurry into匆忙進入

Her parents are trying to hurry her into marriage. 她的父母設(shè)法催她快點結(jié)婚。

hurry out匆忙出去

The man hurried out of the car before reporters could speak to him. 記者們還未來得及與他交談，這個男人就匆匆下了車。

in a hurry匆忙地

He left home in a hurry and forgot to turn off the light this morning. 今天上午他匆忙離開家，忘記關(guān)燈了。

6. yet， still & already

（1） yet用于疑問句、否定句中，表示“到此時，至今，尚，還”，常用于現(xiàn)在完成時中，位于句末。

He has not come yet. 他還沒有來。

yet用于肯定句表示“還，仍然，依然”，相當于still，但yet具有強烈的感情色彩。

My son is sleeping yet. 我兒子還在睡覺。（暗示別大聲說話）

（2） still意為“仍然，還”，表示某事正在進行中或正在某過程中，多用于進行時和一般現(xiàn)在時的肯定句或疑問句中。still還可用來修飾比較級。

They are still talking in the room. 他們還在房間里談話。

He is still more careful. 他還是那么小心謹慎。

（3） already意為“已經(jīng)”，多用于肯定句中，一般放在實義動詞前或助動詞、be動詞后。若位于句末表示強調(diào)。

The train has already left. 火車已經(jīng)開走了。

already也可用于疑問句中，含有“驚奇”之意，可以置于句中，有時為了強調(diào)置于句末。

Has your son gone to school already？ 你的兒子已經(jīng)上學了嗎？（表示很驚訝）

7. full of 充滿……

full是形容詞，of后接名詞。

The box is full of books. 這個箱子裝滿了書。

【拓展】

fill... with... 用……裝滿……，其主語通常是人，被動語態(tài)為be filled with，相當于be full of。

The bottle was filled with water. 瓶子里裝滿了水。

8. put down放下;記下

為“動詞+副詞”型短語，賓語若為代詞，應(yīng)放在put與down之間。cant put sth. down意為“對某物愛不釋手”。

Dont put up your hands. Please put them down. 你們不要舉手，請放下。

Let me put down your telephone number. 讓我記下你的電話號碼。

It is an interesting book and he cant put it down. 它是一本有趣的書，他對它愛不釋手。

put away 收起來;put off 推遲;put on 穿上;put up 張貼

9. cant wait to do sth. 迫不及待做某事

The girl cant wait to open the box. 這個女孩迫不及待地要打開這個盒子。

cant help doing sth. 意為“情不自禁地做某事”。

He could not help laughing. 他忍不住笑了起來。

cant stand doing sth. 意為“不能容忍做某事”。

I cant stand waiting for such a long time. 我不能容忍等這么久。

cant stop doing sth. 意為“不能停止做某事”。

The boy couldnt stop crying when he heard the bad news. 當他聽到這個壞消息時，這個男孩不停地哭起來。

10. come to （事情）逐漸;終于……

相當于begin / get to，后跟動詞原形，常與know， understand， realize， be， love， like等動詞連用，強調(diào)漸變過程。

I came to understand his love. 我開始理解他的愛。

come to do意為“來做（從事）某事”。

Excuse me， would you like to come to help me with my English？ 打擾了，你愿意來幫助我學英語嗎？
