Few students like it, but homework is an important part of secondary school[中學(xué)] life in the UK. Not only does it reinforce[加強] what has been done in the classroom, but it also develops independent learning skills.
Government guidelines on homework:
Years 7 and 8 (ages 11 to 13): 45 to 90 minutes per day
Year 9 (ages 14 to 15): 1 to 2 hours a day
Today, many homework tasks are done on a computer—for example, preparing presentations[陳述], using the Internet, or completing online tasks on an e-learning[電子學(xué)習(xí)] platform. So, schools are usually open before and after normal hours, enabling students without a computer or Internet access[互聯(lián)網(wǎng)接入] at home to use their resources and IT facilities[設(shè)施].
Sometimes students are given Extended Learning Tasks which require more detailed research and analysis[分析], such as a history or art project. But however big the task, teachers will always give feedback[反饋], helping students to identify[識別] areas that need improvement.
Some schools send students home with a homework diary, so parents and carers[看護者] can track[追蹤] their childs progress. Other schools have an e-portal[電子門戶], so parents can keep track of their childs performance every day. Sadly, not every parent takes that much interest. In a 2011 poll[投票,民意調(diào)查] of 1, 000 students aged 11 to 18, over one in ten complained that they did not have enough space at home to do homework, while almost a quarter said that their family did not support them enough.
Word of the day: e-
e- is used as a prefix[前綴] to refer to[指的是] things that happen on the Internet. It is short for electronic[電子的]. So an e-mail is mail on computers and e-learning is online learning.
