Philip, I wanna tell you a story. And like all good stories, it starts like this:

Philip，我給你講個故事吧。如同其它所有美好的故事一樣，它的開頭是這樣的：

Once upon a time, there was a father, and in case you cant figure that out, thats me. This father had a wonderful little boy. He was very happy.

從前，有一位父親——萬一你搞不清楚，其實就是我。這位父親有了一個很棒的兒子。他非常開心。

Then one day, he found out that his wife was going to have another baby. So I prayed, “Lord, if its Your Will, make her a little girl.” And He did. I was the first person to hold her in my arms.

后來有一天，他得知自己的妻子又懷了一個寶寶。他便祈禱：“主啊，如果這是您的旨意，讓它是個女孩吧?！彼饝?。我是第一個將她抱在懷里的人。

And I looked at her, and I said, “Lord, make her like her mother.” And He did. She was loving, giving, so good and so kind.

然后我看著她，我說：“主啊，讓她像她媽媽吧?！边@次他又辦到了。她像她母親一樣有愛心、樂于奉獻、很好心又很善良。

But then I realized I was getting left out1. So I said, “Lord, make her like me.” And He did. She could drive a truck and a tractor. She could load2 hay and chew3 tobacco. Do you realize what youre getting?

不過后來我發(fā)現(xiàn)我把自己給漏掉了。于是我說：“主啊，讓她也像我吧?！比缓笏舱辙k了。她能夠像我一樣駕駛卡車和牽引機，還會堆牧草和嚼煙草。你知道你將得到的是什么樣的人了吧？

But at the same time, she was opinionated4 and emotional5. So I said, “Lord, thats enough of that! Make her like You.” And He did. He gave her the desire to serve people. She loves people. She gave her life to being a nurse. Shes brought people back from the dead. And shes held the hand of people who have breathed their last breath. He gave her a heart for missions, and shes trekked6 all over the world, pushed canoes up swollen rivers, laid on the floor while bullets whizzed7 outside so she could tell people about Jesus.

但同時，她也會固執(zhí)，也會情緒化。于是我說：“主啊，夠了！讓她也像你吧。”他又沒讓我失望。于是她有了為人民服務的渴望。她愛人們。于是她投入全身心成為了一名護士。她曾把人們從死亡線上救回來，曾守在奄奄一息的病人身邊握住他們的手。同時她還有一顆傳道之心，她曾在世界各地艱苦跋涉，曾在漲水的河流中劃著獨木舟逆流而上，曾在子彈呼嘯之時匍匐在地，從而向人們傳播耶穌的福音。

But still something was missing, so I said, “Lord, make her happy.” And she met you. Did you see that look on her face? I never saw that until she met you. And Im grateful8 for that. Today Im giving you the best thing I have to give.

但我覺得還少了某樣東西，于是我說：“主啊，讓她幸福吧?！比缓笏鲆娏四?。你看到她臉上幸福的表情了嗎？直到她遇見了你，我才見到了她那種表情。對此我心懷感激。所以今天我不得不把我最寶貴的女兒交給你。

I just want you to know before I do that, how hard me and God has worked to get her ready. So Philip, as I give her to you, I dont think youll mind if I give you one more word of advice. Me and Gods worked hard. Dont screw it up!

在我把她交給你之前，我只想讓你知道，上帝和我花了多大的功夫才有了現(xiàn)在站在你身邊的她。所以Philip，在我將她交給你之時，你應該不會介意我多送給你一句忠告吧：上帝和我已經(jīng)很努力了。別搞砸了。
