Elena:

See, the thing is, I got home tonight planning on doing what I always do.

Write in my diary like I have been since my mom gave me one when I was 10.

It’s where I get everything out, everything I'm feeling.

It all goes in this little book that I hide on the second shelf behind this really hideous①hideous英 ['h?d??s]美 ['hidi?s] adj. 可怕的；丑惡的ceramic mermaid②mermaid英 ['m??me?d]美 ['m?med] n. 美人魚（傳說中的）.

But then I realized that I'd just be writing things that I should probably be telling you.

Stefan:

What would you write?

Elena:

I would write... dear diary.

艾琳娜：

是這樣的，今晚回家后我本想像原來那樣做。寫進日記本里，10歲那年，媽媽給了我第一個日記本，我就開始寫日記。

在日記里我才說出所有的心事。

都記錄在這個小本子里，我把它藏在書架的第二層，那條陶瓷做的丑美人魚后面。

Today I convinced myself it was OK to give up.

But my reasons aren't reasons, they're excuses.

All I'm doing is hiding from the truth, and the truth is that I'm scared, Stefan.

I'm scared that if I let myself be happy for even one moment that the world's just going to come crashing down.

Stefan:

Do you want to know what I would write?

I met a girl. We talked. It was epic⑤epic 英 ['ep?k] 美 ['?p?k] adj. 史詩的，敘事詩的.

Well, this is reality. Right here.

不要冒險，維持現(xiàn)狀，不要太戲劇性，現(xiàn)在還不是時候。

但這些都不是理由，而是借口。我只是在逃避事實，而事實是我害怕了，斯特凡。我害怕要是我允許自己高興哪怕一秒鐘，整個世界就會崩潰。

我不知道自己是否能撐過去。
