Paris, the Prince of Troy注1fell in love with Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world. Then he1)kidnapped her and brought her back to Troy as well as a whole lot of2)riches. This made Helen’s husband, Menelaus, the king of Sparta注2very angry. Menelaus’ brother Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae注3. He decided that they should fight back. They led an army of 1000 ships to bring back Helen.

The Greeks knew that to win, they would need Odysseus and Achilles, the smartest and the strongest of the Greek3)warriors. But both of them didn’t want to fight.

The Greeks were losing at this point of the fight, when Achilles’ friend Patroclus had an idea. He said that he would scare the Trojan soldiers by wearing Achilles’4)armour. But he was killed. This made Achilles mad, and he entered the battle killing Trojan soldiers everywhere. Paris shot Achilles in the5)heel, the only place he could be harmed. Then the Greeks found Philoctetes, the6)present owner of the Bow of Hercules注4. Paris was shot and killed by Philoctetes.

Odysseus then had a great idea of making a huge7)cockhorse with Greek warriors hiding in it. The cockhorse was called the Trojan Horse later. The Greeks left it as a“gift.” The Trojans accepted the horse and brought it into the gate. Late that night, Greek warriors came out of the horse and8)defeated the Trojans. Helen was taken back to Greece.
