      Application of‘Never Forget English’in English Teaching

      Abstract:In reality, many students give up learning English, which can be accounted for by a lot of different reasons. This paper considers teaching method as one of the most important factors. The paper introduces and analyses a kind of new English teaching method called ‘NF English’ which is originally taught by Mr. Jay who is famous in the field of creative knowledge. And ‘NF English’ is thought suitable and effective for Chinese English teaching and learning environment.

      As is known to all, teaching method plays an essential role in English learning. No textbook, program or system can decide or control learners’ English level no matter how excellent they are. While effective teaching method will motivate students to acquire knowledge independently and enjoy the process of learning.

      I. Explanation of ‘NF English’

      ‘NF English’ (Never Forget English) was originally taught by Mr. Jay who has created a unique English teaching methodology, namely the ‘NF Method’, through his long-term teaching experience. ‘NF English’ aims at fast and dynamic English acquisition.

      First of all, ‘NF English’ helps students remove fears they might have in their minds when beginning to learn English. With ‘NF Method’, students can be taught to have strong sense of speed and rhythm in their English.

      Throughout the ‘NF English’ intensive training courses based on speed and rhythm, teachers coach the students to be able to speak English at the rate of 200 words per minute. This helps the students naturally obtain the sense of word order in English. Although it does not focus on teaching, the students will naturally work it out as ‘grammar is just a by-product’ of the ‘NF Method’.

      Continuous repetitive training by this unique teaching methodology will reinforce not only students’ speaking capability but also their writing capability. ‘NF English’ will remarkably strengthen the students’ capabilities of speaking, writing, reading and listening as it is an integrated learning approach.

      II. The Practical Application of ‘NF English’ Teaching Method

      In ‘NF English’ class, students may not be nervous at all. What they need to do is just to practice. Such simple training model makes them confident and pleased to keep on learning. And they are able to improve the abilities of speaking, listening, reading, writing and even grammar during this kind of simple process.

      What students need to acquire in each ‘NF’ class are only ten sentences. Firstly, the teacher may let them check the stressed words. This step is to examine their sense of rhythm. Secondly, the teacher teaches them to read ten sentences one by one without any explanation. Then students are asked to read these sentences together by themselves. Next, students close their books and just listen and repeat after the teacher’s words. This process is called ‘Speaking+’

      After finishing ‘Speaking+’, it turns to ‘Oral Translation’. Students are given about five minutes to prepare by themselves. In limited time, they are able to figure out what these sentences mean. The teacher can check their achievements when time’s up. At the beginning, the teacher can speak out English sentences and the students should translate them into Chinese. If everyone succeeds, then let them translate Chinese sentences into English, which is more difficult.

      The third part is “Writing+”, which aims at testing students’ abilities of translation, word spelling and grammar. Students have ten minutes to finish translating and writing ten sentences. Good tests bring students pleasure and progress rather than failure and depression. The teacher needs to give students suitable comments, and had better not push students who fail to learn but give them confidence to keep on trying. These students may feel the teacher’s care and trust, which will encourage them to try best to live up to their teacher.

      Next part is “Listening+”. In this part, the teacher can read these sentences arbitrarily one by one. And students should listen to the teacher carefully and write down what they hear. It helps students strengthen the master of these sentences. This time they will be more familiar with the sentences and more confident to finish their tasks.

      The last part is “Speed Reading+”. First of all, students will follow the teacher to read these sentences at the rate of 180 words per minutes. And then students can keep practicing by themselves. The teacher needs to check their speed reading time with a stopwatch. It can make students a little bit nervous but more excited, and students are willing to go on practicing to break the recorder.

      III. Conclusion

      The era when teachers teach students just by so called knowledge ends. Modern teachers should make students discover and develop their own potential force of acquiring language through particular teaching method and strategy during the teaching process. Then students will be able to improve their own learning ability consciously.

      ‘NF Method’ stresses that teachers should form their unique and suitable teaching method to motivate students’ learning motivation continuously. What’s more, this kind of method leads English- learning students a right way to keep on acquiring the language. In addition, it provides teachers with a kind of revelation to find out and develop their own effective teaching methods.
